I agree with the reasons above of why CTF has trouble working in WW but I really don't think CTF in even RTCW fairs much better than it does in WW. Matches in RTCW are almost always over soon after they start even with servers with 20+ people on them. What makes WW so great is that the matches aren't over in an instant like they always are in RTCW and everything is more balanced and better paced as well. The CTF really has trouble in WW because of the slower pace makes it hard to get to a flag when you know someone else is racing towards another. I really think if the flags worked on a timer much like they do on objective maps it'd help make the matches longer and make it so people are not just running around willy-nilly. So like if the bandits get all the flags it begins a countdown and they must hold all the flags for a certain amount of time. But then again with how the current CTF maps are designed the matches might just never end with such a timer. If team A's flag is somewhere near its spawn and team B's flag is somewhat near theirs and there are 1 or 2 in a totally neutral area (both teams could reach that spot in the same amount of time) then the timer would work for WW. So with less flags there would be more fighting instead of people finding flags more often than the enemy and with a timer the matches wouldn’t end by the time some people even get the map loaded. But with how the flags are so very close to each team's spawn and many are easier for one team to get than another it’d be an endless struggle of me crying with a timer in place on the current way the CTF maps are set up.

Dragon,

How long do you think it will be before the new boards are running? Oneshot and Doc Sancho told me about boulderdash but I wasn't able to get on and experience it. Keep up the good work I love this game!

Yeah i agree with mad crabs, if there are too many flags, there'd be an endless strugle so maps should be sorted out or the flags should be moved so it will be fair, the timer would ne nice like in batlecreek and canyon so it will be harder to win and if one team has all flags the other team still has a chance, I'd still like to see CTF in WW, keep up with it

I'm hoping to get that we'll be able to get the updates out to you folks before July. As to boulderdash, if you've downloaded the latest it is infact running on Pooh's server :D Also gang, there are two modes to playing capture the flag mode (ctf) for RtCW and wild west. Each take a different type of team play than ordinary ob mode. Unlimited life (UL) servers: Teamwork and knowing what flag is where is esential to winning. work with teammates and work from flag to flag. Pay attention to which flag the enemy has just taken and plan where they will be going next. If you can ambush them enroute the better. you may also want to leave a player or 2 at a flag to also ambush opponants attemting to grab it. Don't get desparate, work the enemy first the flag second UNLESS YOU ARE DOWN TO ONE FLAG, then grab any flag quick. Also if you can coordinate simultanious attacks on multiple flags you'll have a suprize advantage over the other team. Limited or one life to live (LL/OLTL) servers: flags become secondary, they tend to let the enemy know where you are and that is a big disadvantage. Instead, the ctf map provides a ballanced playing field where both teams are on an equal footing. Keep you're team together in squads and make sure you've at least one doctor with each squad. you can use folks as point, but don't let them get out too far, their best bet is to scout ahead and fall back to teammates as soon as ya see something. Use of vocal team chats are esential for tracking teammates and coordinating attacks.

I think CTF mode suffers from the same problems as CP mode in regular Wolf. People just don't like capturing flags all the time, they prefer blowing stuff up/stealing objectives.

I think if CTF were enhanced somehow it might be more popular. I can think of 3 ways of doing this.

1. Make it easier to capture flags. Instead of having them being touched, change the source code so it checks players' proximity from the flag. So for example if an enemy flag was '6 feet' away from you it would detect it and change the flag automatically. Maps could even be divided into 'flag areas' where a flag state would be dictated by a majority of players of a certain team located there.

2. Have audible warnings for flag gains and losses, like Enemy Territory. Also warn when one team has only one flag left to capture before victory.

3. Attach bonuses to the flags as incentives. Things like extra health/ammo, running speed, weapons, access to locked doors etc.

Hope this helps!

Boy those are good ideas and each could be implemented on individual maps...

Similar to Day of Defeat, they have an odd number of flags 5 or 7 and the cental flag usually takes two players to cap it but they put a timer on it of about 10 to 15 seconds which is linked to a capture area, I've no idea if you could do this with WW though. T.T.F.N. Chalky
