When is the American and British army gonna beaf up the cal of their weapons to 7.62mm. The M16/M4, SA80, LSW and SAW all fire 5.56. Only the american M60 fires 7.62. I just want to see a weapon made (mainly a rifle) that fires 7.62 to match up to the power of the AK.

:clueless: If your dead, your dead. The calibre of the ammunition used to kill you ain't gonna be your first concern...

well the 5.56 rd is design not to kill but to injure because a injured person need more ppl to help him a dead person needs none. the 7.62 is designed to kill

i agree with MAC, i hate the .223. Plus about you saying how the M60 uses the 7.62. Thats right but the army doesnt really use it anymore, we use the M249 which uses the .223 :(. I wish we could just adopt the FN FAL but instead it looks like we are going for the XM8 (.223 :() They say the XM8 might be adopted by the army as soon as next summer!

I have a better idea. Give everyone nuclear rocket launchers like in Starship Troopers.

Yes, that's an excellent idea, Smitty. As he said, give Mr. Matt nuclear rocket launchers like in Starship Troopers.

blah the reason we (the british army) us 5.56mm is because anything bigger would then make you need to carry a heavier weapon, granted you have your guys who do carry this large wespon but most would carry 5.56mm as there weapon due to the fact of having to move fast and quick.

Im sorry but going into battle with a GPMG 7.62mm isnt easy, on foot anyway, it breaks your back having to carry such a large weapon plus having to then carry all that ammo around 800 rounds probably (i used the MINIMI in iraq, i had to carry 4x200 5.56mm link and that way heavy)

Why do u think officers carry handguns? because they cant be done with a big weapon around them when they make big decisions. u need to weigh up alot, think about why and how you could carry this and then decide how to and proceed to battle.

Wouldnt catch me with 7.62mm GPMG, id rather have my SA80 5.56mm with SUSAT (scope) attached with a choice of Night vision aid to change at dark hours :)

And note the AK is a very inaccurate weapon, that was used as a weapon to mainly cover and spread, ive seen them fire and they are really rubbish.
