Granyaski;5591502Something thats getting at me: If that planet is 600 light years away does that mean we are looking at it, as it looked, 600 years ago?

Yes, but in the life-cycle of a planet, six hundred years is an extremely small amount of time, especially without any artificial intervention. I very much doubt the planet's change much, if at all.

God it's so fascinating to think about what might be out there in space. I follow astronomy research a lot cause it fascinates meh. It's not too surprising that I got to these forums through the Star Trek boards. Star Trek fueled my curiousity about what's out there when I was a kid and that curiousity has turned into pure love for everything out there that I wish I could see and interact with.

I climb mountains here in Alaska a lot in the summer and sometimes winter and there are places where you are on a ridge that has a 2500 foot drop on one side and beyond that is a massive valley. Seeing that gave meh a realization about how incredible the world is and it again put more fuel in the fire of my curiousity towards space. God I'd give anything to see what kinds of wild and beautiful, deadly, undescribable (and other random adjectives) landscapes there might be throughout the universe.

Everyone interested in this article should check out a band called Skywatchers. Amazing music for sitting out on a porch on a starry night with a beer and just looking up with headphones on.

I'd laugh if in the last 600 years it's collided with something and no longer exists.

Oh I knew that much wouldn't of changed. I was wondering if I was right or not.

In 600 years an alien civilization could of destroyed the planet...

Wouldn't that suck? You've lived your whole life on a colony ship and you're about to reach your destination only to find it a charred husk? Maybe an alien equivalent of "Kilroy was here" burnt into the crust by some ship's superlaser?

I just find it interesting.
I know what it is. It's Captain Proton's rocket ship. He's preparing to invade Doctor Chaotica's mines on Mercury. =p

Sorry, Trek nerd here. =p
Wouldn't that suck? You've lived your whole life on a colony ship and you're about to reach your destination only to find it a charred husk? Maybe an alien equivalent of "Kilroy was here" burnt into the crust by some ship's superlaser?
