Now, I'm planning on joining the Navy out of High School and have heard that if you save a Marine's butt in combat, then you've got the proud and the few at your personal disposal in the civilian world if you ever need them.
The example I've heard is a Navy medic patching up a jarhead in a war zone, then finishing his tour and going to a bar as a civilian. The ex-medic gets talking to the ex-Marine on the barstool next to him, tells the ex-Marine that he kept another Marine alive once upon a time, and then the Navy guy is in the Marines' good graces and therefore has every retired, inactive, or normal Marine serviceman he meets at his command, more or less.
Now, would that apply to a Navy fighter pilot and a pinned down company of Marines?
So, in the future, if we're still in Iraq or are in WWIII, and a squad of Marines calls in some air support when the odds are shoddy, and I fly in and bomb the living s*** out of the baddies, and they know it's me by linked comms, would that make me respected by the entire Marine community? 'Cuz the smaller guys like me, all brains and a little muscle, could really use some big badasses in a bar brawl on my side.
Hypothetically speaking, all this. Any current or retired servicemen know about this issue? 'Cuz I wanna be cool in somebody's eyes, y'know?

Marines have the utmost respect for Navy pilots who fly ground support missions and Navy Corpman who patch up Marines.
I have heard of Navy pilots and Corpman never having to buy their own drinks if there were multiple Marines about, especially if they knew you had served with Marines or flew support for Marines.
The Marines have their own Air Wings flying air support. If the Navy is flying support you know the situation is serious.
Marines? Flying? Themselves?
Sorry, it's just that I never really imagined (or have heard of) Marine fighter pilots. I figured they had the Air Force do most of their airborne stuff.
Also, is there any other special "respect" issues I should know about? Like, Marines that bust up AAA and SAM systems in an area where I'd be flying (obviously) deserve my respect?
I checked out Marines.com and their aviation section. Hornets and Harriers looked to be the only fighter planes they fly, and then the Apache gunships and the Hercules transports.

The Navy kicks ass. Hands down.
Damn. Nice avatar and sig, I approve!!!!!!!
That being said, I would appreciate it if you included the text "ONE PHAWKSY SIG!!!!!!!" in your signature. It's a word play; phawksy = foxy, foxy = sexy. Get it? There's a reason I chose that name, too...14 years old and size 14 shoe, for those that are "educated" in such matters, MIRITE LADIES?
ON TOPIC: Hell yeah, the Navy kicks ass. We've got tons of women on board for what reason? They like to ride on big boats.

Oh no. Theres a difference between a nice round apple ass and a huge disproportioned tank ass. Navy gals seem to evolve the latter. must be the water. lol
