A friend of mine showed this video to me last night. Footage of a column of M1A2s rolling down a highway into Baghdad in 2003.
There is combat footage in here, do not watch then whine about it. Do not try to make this another Iraq war thread. Don't come back here and complain about how desensitized we all are to death and distruction.
But if you want to see what the roll into the Iraqi capital city actually looked like, watch this video. Included are the elimination of a BRDM-3, BMP-1, RPG team, and a rather stupid technical driver who decided to ride into the column.
Watch for a destroyed red bus after the featured tank passes under the first underpass. Listen of a high pitched woosh, and look for a fast moving speck. That would be an RPG-7.
I wonder what the guy in that white pickup was thinking?
The only thing I could think of is that someone in the back had an RPG. Either that or someone played to much DC, thought those Abrams were about half as powerful as they really are.

:p. And I bet he thought he would reswpan.
If I had to join the armed forces in a combat role I would go for a position in a tank. Unless you are up aganist moden tanks like a t-90 or 500lb bombs, you are immune to everything.
A good RPG team can at least disable the Abrams in the Iraqi theater. But in a conventional war, it's no contest.
I pretend I'm cooler than AzH

abrams has very strong armor up front, but on the sides its can penetrated by an RPG. ive seen a pic and military report, one guy got a little burned from some of the blast coming in, but barely. this was a side hit.
Must have been without the DU armor, and probably a tandem warhead RPG. The armor on the Abrams was designed to withstand not just RPG hits, but fire from much more powerful missiles, such as those fired from helicopters.
thats crazy insane, you dont see real combat footage like that all the time
I kinda feel bad for the Iraqi army, they were less effective than the insurgents are today. Cool vid though.
I'll try to find some others like this. One of my friends is a prior-service infantryman who has been to Iraq. He's told some rather interesting stories, such as the most effective weapon against a Dragunov armed insurgent in a minaret is an AT-4. You know, things along that line.
