Hi fellas. Ive served, just got out, married now. I did two years (thats about 4 tours) in East Timor. 1st special corp- 2nd battalion. First went over there first time in 2000. Was there when Pvt Manning from NZ and a from the troop beside us, got hit and killed in a firefight. Not nice, scary as hell. But too much adrenalin to know any different. Army's a good life (minus the shooting) Id recommend anyone who wants to make a go of life to join, just for a few years anyway. Heres some pictures. Cheers mates. ~ Climate adjusting over the ditch in Darwin and Townsville. Some of our APC's. Mens and womans showers. No not like Hollywood, GI Jane, Hell camp etc, we respect each other privacy like anything. One of the woman troop getting a feed. Steyr rifles always loaded and always ready. ;) Airborne, on our way to a drop zone. Fun fun. The burnt out bit was where some Militias tried to mess some stuff up, hurt some people. Very dangerous guys there were. :(
Which military are you part of?
I'd guess Australia..
Wanna go Double Dutch?

NZ is my guess too... looking at the troop deployments to East Timor. ;) And the uniform of the soldier - NZ DPM.
But Pvt Manning was a NZ soldier killed in East Timor a couple of years ago.
Yes New Zealand. Was in 1st Scots Armoured but vollied to go Special troop to go overseas. Good experience. Yes Manning was KIA a few years ago now. 2001 if I recall. I left there finally in '02. Cheers.

Wow, interesting. I've been thinking about the military but I've eventually looked the other way. If I had to join, I'd join either the USMC/US Army or the USN. The USN to fly some planes or the USMC/US Army to be a tanker.
gravy666;4344136For the army dudes here, I would like to know why you joined the army. What motivated you? Just curious.
I'm not in the armed forces, but a good friend of mine joined. He joined because he did not know what else he was going to do. He went to college for 2 years, and was stuck in a job he didn't like anymore. He was an Eagle Scout, and his only plans for the future were to become a politician. So he figured, one good thing to add to his record is a military career. He signed up with the Marines for four or five years of service, and is serving his 3rd year of that right now. He was an Air Traffic Controller in Yuma Arizona, until recently. He's volunteered to go overseas (either doesn't want to, or can't say where) and getting out of there sooner than he would if he were picked and forced to go.
Im thinking of joing the Australian Army myself next year. Something interisting to do after i finish school.
Iv always been interisted by my countries Army, so i thought it was about time i joined myself. Always been a goal of mine.
If not, my second goal is to join the Reserves. Field artillery mainly.
