HuffardoPerhaps you still could just learn self-defence, no need to attack people... Anyway, attacking is the easy part, just wait till the victim doesn't expect you to attack and use e.g. an axe... :uhm:

As for self-defence I assume Krav Maga could be useful. At least it doesn't concentrate on wierd and ineffective moves that just look cool. I don't know much about it though, but it is supposed to be really good.

Agreed, I would also think that if you have the time to prepare an attack you are not in immidiate danger and could also walk away or find an other way out. If you know how to defend yourself you should do just fine.

It all comes down to what you want out of it. If you want, say, the challenge in improving your own physical condition, then there are a lot of options. Personally I sway towards kick-boxing and taekwondo, but it's all a matter of what you prefer. If you want to train it for self-defense purposes, there isn't a "best" option, however, aikido is definetely worth checking out. Also, in a lot of cases (depends on your teacher) you are going through training in order to, and I quote, "learn how to fight multiple opponents fluidly".

In the end, though, it all comes down to what you want out of it, and your preference. If you want to get in good shape, I say go for kick-boxing (heh, don't think I'm saying it's better than others, I just like to throw my opinions around -- although it has some of the hardest physical requirements for attaining a new rank).

If you want to use the person's weight aganist them judo is great for that. Judo does not involve punching and kicking, it involves thowing and pins. Think of it as a more graceful form of wrestling. I took it for 2 years untill I broke my right collar bone in a tournament. I also relaized I have no physical agression.

I would take a gun or knife for self-defence any day. Little training is needed on how to use one, and the sight of it can scare attackers away.

fr0zen nope i'm not the sort of person that just starts something for no reason and go around beating people up. i want more of an offence because on friday my friend was beaten up. he knows how to defend himself but he didnt know attack. yes, if i set my mind on something, i'll be quite serious about learning it.

Well obviously he didn't know how to defend himself, otherwise they wouldn't have beaten him up. Martial arts is all about blocking an attack and countering with one of your own. There are types of Kung Fu which claim to be very good for offense, but if you ever encounter someone who learned how to defend himself correctly it probably won't help you very much.

So true and yet so ignored by so many kids these days. Learn defense first trust me. If you have what it takes then move on.

Or am I??? I must retire to discover my identity through deep meditation, and watching badly dubbed kung fu movies.
