I need a quick reply to this thread.

I have been to an international school run by a British school system. I was in the 9th year, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to convert British 'years' to American 'grades'. I thought that 9th year was 8th grade, but my mother thinks that it is 10th. I really need to clear this up. If someone knows the conversions or can direct me to a website that can tell me, I would very thankful. Knowing this can mean the difference of me passing High School this year or next.

No, there is a difference. I forgot weither a 'year' was a grade higher or lower than the US conterpart.

Well i think that your "first year" would be the equivalent of "Kindergarten" in the U.S.

Therefore you are right, i think. Unless pre-K counts and that you generally are supposed to spend 13 years in school.

Actually, I think your mom might be right. Most people that are 16 are in the 10th or 11th grade, not 8th...

I'm a year younger than most juniors in my school. My birthdate is august 29. 1988. Plus, I was about 14 or 15 when I was in the British School.

you're 16 so you are either in 10th grade or 11th (sophomre or junior)

but the key word is you WERE, so now subtract the years from when you attended and you have your answer
