ov_nab622;4772576I hope most PC retailers go. I get very annoyed by businessmen in suits that say "Well, this is the way we want it so that's how we're going to do things". PCs should be tuned up, modified, upgraded, reprogrammed, tested, open-sourced, etc...people shouldn't buy them just to put them on a shelf and click the mouse. That's 90% of computer users right there.

Most people aren't geeks like you, though. =p

I'm not really a geek...

I have never properly fixed electronic hardware before, yet I just replaced my laptop's motherboard. If I can do it, non-geeks can do it, too. They just don't want to, or they want help. Which is fine, but...that's why there are teardown manuals.

As usual, I've derailed the topic. XD

Circuit City has been failing for awhile now so it's no surprise.

I never heard of Frys. We have Circuit City and Best Buy, so since Circuit City is going away, we're stuck with Best Buy, and they're starting to suck.

A) most people that get a computer just want to take it home, plug in the power cord and have a pc. remember the story about the girl that droped out of school because she couldn't get an Ubunto laptop to connect to the net? Or because it didn't have ms office.

B) Most people haven't even heard the term open-source before.

C) Most people don't check prices for stuff online first (though this is rapidly changing) and as thus, most of these stone stores are able to function quite well still.

Yeah, effects of the microsoft movement. They don't want people to know, because it will end up destroying them.

^ To be honest I've never ever seen microsoft ever banning anything open source on their system (sure they don't release their own OS open source, but neither does apple)

It's just that people utterly don't care and will use whatever they are used to using. Which on the large is Windows+Office. I know a lot of people that when asked what windows they use, they answer Office.
