I'm curious if we have any colorblind people, or people with experience in regards to colorblindness, around here?

I'm asking because I've noticed my color vision might not be as good as I like to think. Specifically, I find it very difficult to distinguish certain shades of green and red. Not impossible. If given enough time, I can definitely tell the difference between two close hues, but in certain situations, it actually gets really difficult.

I've noticed that if I use "protanopia" colorblind settings, it makes it far easier for me to distinguish between the shades. It also doesn't wash colors out. I don't know if that's just the nature of the implementation in games and programs, or if it's actually because the cones in my eyes are fucked.

Take a shot at this:

It's a great way to test your color range.

My result isn't great, but it's not bad either. In my completely uneducated opinion, I'd say it could indicate my color vision isn't exactly perfect. It's not total color blindness either.

Apparently it's possible to have "anomalous" color vision  in place of complete absence. So whereas Person A with protanopia can't see any red color at all, the person with protanomaly can see a distorted version. I would guess that the green cone photopigment in my eyes is slightly off.

... Which also explains why I often end up arguing about whether something is violet or blue :p

It's nothing impairing at all. I honestly wouldn't have spared it any thought if it wasn't because of just testing color blind modes for the heck of it and finding they helped me distinguish. At any rate, my color vision is damn near perfect anyway.

I got a score of 9 - highest distinction failure occurred right in the middle of the spectrum.
