I personally think it depends on how fast we can get off Earth. If we spread to other planets, the chances of us being whiped out are very slim, to say the least.

The only thing I see happening before this is WW3. Which, if we're unlucky, would probably blow up the earth or something. We can survive a nuclear holocaust. At least some of us can. However, the blowing up of a planet doesn't leave much chance to survive.

I agree with Chaos, if we do get off Earth and find our selves new homes on other planets, it is definately more likely that we will survive for a longer time period.

I think we may stand a high chance of getting hit from something from space, like an asteriod. Because at this moment in time we have no planetary defences.

A simple little poll. Which of the above do you think is the most likely way humans will be wiped out?

Very similar to a post i made in the pub a while ago. But i think if the end does come it will be by either a nuclear war or climate change. This is not somthing i like to think about but it it somthing that is very possible. Just think if there is a nuclear war i would probably be like one of those films where everthing is wiped out and very few survivors those that do survive would be one that lived in isolated area even then they would be exposed to radiation, And of course those who would be fine would be the govenments who no doubt would go and hide in their bunkers and leave us to it. But think what would there be left to come up to, I wouldent want to be around to see that. And as for climate change well i think there is no way to know exactly how bad the situatuion is we often go by what we see on tv/newspapers e.t.c so the situation could be not as bad as we are told or it could be worse to avoid panic. There is also the fact that our resources are running out and there appears to be little development on alternatives. I have herd that there are indeed alternatives to devlop power and ways of reducing pollution but the oil companies buy up the rights to the technology so it cant be used or developed further. I can see our resources running out in the early to mid 2100's. Steven hawking said in a conference about 5 or 6 mounths ago that in order to survive we must leave earth within 100 years, But then who gets to go probably all the sientists, Doctors various members of the governments and again we are all left here. i can see that happening for all we know space travel is more developed than we may think. I have been told and this i believe that if it wernt for the middle ages after the Roman empire collapsed we would be colinising space right now. If i were to give a time frame of selected people leaving earth i would say late 2000's

A few of those options, such as 'Super Volcano' and 'Nuclear War' may well wipe out a large amount of the human population, but would never cause our extinction. An asteroid/comet also has a chance, but it would be a highly rare event. Then again...anything's possible. If anything were to wipe out the human race, i'd say we'd do it ourselves. Problems such as infertility, cancer and other diseases and disformaties are becoming more numerous and common throughout humans... and unless we find a miracle cure, things are just going to keep getting worse. Then again, that is a long way off, and as previous posters have said, if we can expand throughout the universe and possibly inhabit other planets, the human race is bound to exist far, far longer. But as always, everything must come to an end.

I wouldn't say that an Asteroid or Comet could necessarily wipe out the population. No doubt we have underground bunkers and such to keep people in should that event occur. However, with saying that, it is possible. Anything is. I do question the 'get off Earth and go to other planets' though. No planet is going to be exactly the same as Earth, thus, who is even to say that we can survive on other planets? - At least, in that planets open air. Unless we'd built domes and such, but then we still risk the chance of infection and disease. A new planet would have new viruses, that we wouldn't know about, thus wouldn't have a cure for. If we are going to go though, my money is on us wiping ourselves out due to people across the globe, trying to gain power. I believe that should the time come when we are about the die as a global civilisation, it'll be because of us that we do die.

Something will really mess up our climate, wheather it be from our polluion of the planet, or a Comet of some type.

If something huge collided with earth it would fuck the climate system up so bad.

But then again nuclear war could also do this with great proficiancy.

Yes but those bunkers are probably reserved for the govenments and V.I.P's. So we probably wouldent get in.

True but it is safe to assume that some od the things out there we may already have a cure for, As for planets that support life well i for one think there is a earth like planet out there, i mean think about it sapce is ENDLESS so there has got to be somthing out there. Yeah, exactly a power struggle countries join up to fight others, nuclear war starts and so on.

Funny, I caught part of a show on the History Channel on the top 10 ways the world will end. I belive it was called "The last days." The only one I caught almost fully was a black hole approaching and eventually swallowing the Earth up. They described, in detail, what would happen as it approaches and then eventually meets up with the Earth.

I don't think that this will happen, though.
