Back when I was in High School yes, it was the only way to get on the forums. In college no...they could kick you out if you went around their filters, and being a tech school specializing in computers, I wasn't about to test their knowledge of their own networks.

Now, no. I have no reason too.

I am now. I just realized I wasn't, but it speeds up my satellite connection... 'cause it's satellite =]

Though I really haven't looked into the why, I think it's because it optimizes the page to reduce the amount of back and forth transmissions, so latency isn't as much of a factor.
