Soon I'll be 18 and I will get my first driving lessons. Now I'm curious, do you already have a drivers license, if so, at what age did you get it?

I wish I already had the chance to get it but in the Netherlands you need to be 18 for it.

I did my learner's license at 17, and my driver's at 18 back when I was living in South Africa. In total, with driving lessons, it cost me around 200€, instead of the ridiculous 2000-2500€ here in Germany. I was able to convert the SA one to a valid German one without any problems, I just had 1 year probation since I'd only had my license for a year.

An interesing coincidence: Rob (Donutz) and I passed our licenses on exactly the same day.

I took my driving lessons free at school, though I was never informed of nightime parking on the test, but that's just parking and putting the park lights on (someone told me).

I obtained my beginner's permit at 16 I think. It took me 3 times to pass the Driver's Test and finally get my license. The minimum age to get a restricted driver's license was 17 and a full license at 18. Since I was 18 when I finally passed the test, I obtained the full license.

I've had no accidents nor tickets since then, though I hit a dog exactly one day after obtaining my driver's license. I've had my share of near-wrecks as well, the latest one being yesterday at this really bad intersection. Tried to cross traffic at a really crappy intersection and almost was sideswiped by an 18 wheeler with no trailer on it.

I haven't gotten mine yet, but I can get it next March. I live in Georgia, US, and the laws are very lax. I have my learner's permit right now, and plan to get my license (not restricted or anything!) at 16.

Because of the laws here, I don't need to take any special classes (except ONE, which is something about drug awareness?). The full license costs.. $15 I think, unless you are an organ donor, you get it for $10. Learner's Permit is $5.. again, I think.

Where's the "no" option?

I don't have it. It's pretty expensive here (somewhere around 1500 - 2000 €) and I have to save some money before I go to study at university. Furthermore, I'm supporter of public transportation which works quite well in Finland so I don't even need a car.

Got it at 18, but only 3-4 months before turning 19 as it took me a while to gather the >1200€ (can't remember exact amount anymore, but it was extremely expensive even though I chose the cheapest driving school there) needed and the lessons taking quite a few months extra with me failing the first driving test adding a week or two too. Due to the awful price I couldn't afford a car until this year. :uhm:

I started to drive as a learner when I was 16 and took it 2 month after I got 18. It costed me approximately €400. Now days its much more expensive though, but back in those days the traffic schools didn't have a special tax on them. 1½ year later I took my motorcycle license. That costed me approximately €150.

I'm more curious about what age they got it, not whether they have it or not, hence there's no "no" option ;)

I'm having a "spoed cursus" (emergency course) when I become 18, I'll get lessons on friday and saturdus which take 4 hours each. After about 4 weeks I can try to pass the exam so if everything goes well I can get it in 4 weeks.

Oh, and it costs 1250 euro.

Since i live in a city with excellent public transportation, i have no use for a licence. If i ever get one, i would get it in California where it's much cheaper.
