Assault on Erin Andrews' privacy scary for all female journalists - Y! Spor... - Yahoo! Sports

Assault on Erin Andrews' privacy scary for all female journalists It's never been easy for female sports journalists. From Lisa Olson being sexually harassed while covering the New England Patriots to Suzy Kolber having to fend off the advances of a drunk Joe Namath on national television to MMA reporter Loretta Hunt being called an unacceptable name for women on camera by UFC president Dana White, women have had to overcome obstacles not faced by their male counterparts.

That doesn't even take into account that women on television are judged for not just what they know but what they look like. Most female sports journalists have dealt with these difficulties with aplomb. However, they were magnified considerably this week when ESPN reporter Erin Andrews became a victim of video voyeurism after someone shot video of her in a private moment through her hotel room peephole.
So...this chic wants to be taken seriously as a reporter, right?

Why is this out there then?

If you are going to go pose in Mens magazines, showing off your (rather average looking) body, dont whine and bitch when people look at you as T&A instead of a reporter. You are going to Mens sporting events where testosterone and adrenaline are flowing, and the guys see a chic walking around...the conversation they engage you in is SURELY not to determine how smart and witty and sophisticated you are, but rather or not they can get some that night. And any female that DOESNT know this is retarded.

Update:

Hackers Use Naked Video of ESPN Star Erin Andrews to Attack Your PC
NEW YORK (CBS) Hackers are using an illegally-taped peephole video that has naked shots of glamorous ESPN sports reporter Erin Andrews as a lure to get click-happy web surfers to download dangerous malware to their computers, according to a computer security website.

And I thought that 16 year old falling into the manhole then pursing sueing because it was "icky" was bad enough. C'mon, if you make pic's like that even with your nipple showing through your bra you really shouldn't be caring if someone tapes you undressing.....

Thats America! Eh, but can we really blame em? I think males all around the world fall for things like this.

I just think shes a stupid bitch. "Oh look at my implants....ok now dont look and answer my questions and take me seriously...ok now my implants".

You want to know why people take Condi Rice seriously and respect her? She hasnt appeared in Maxim or leaked a sex tape.

If you are selling your body for a magazine spread, you loose the right to be judged on your brain and you change to become judged on your body.

While I agree with your sentiments Nitestryker, about her credibility as a reporter, the issue they're talking about seems to be about her personal security and freedom from harassment. Assume she was a swimsuit model. Is it okay to invade her privacy and video tape her dressing?

Well she is obviously ok with exposing herself in a magazine...why does she cry foul here? I know there is an expectation of privacy, but when you show the world your body in a swimsuit, you would be naieve to think people wouldnt want more from you, and you should have thought of that ahead of time.

I dont believe the invasion of privacy is right, but I dont believe it is unexpected, given her history.

So everyone (well, everyone who looks good enough anyway) should expect harassment and breaches of their privacy if they go for a swim?

If you sell pictures of your body and someone comes along takes them for free, well that's like theft right? And I'm in favour of taking thieves outside and giving them five rounds rapid...

everyone has their other personalitys. i should know i have a few somewhere around here. But its like saying nitestryker is a medical genius and found the cure for the common cold, aids, cancer, sup3r aids, and sup3r cancer. then he feels like bringing the sporty side out and all those big jocks make fun of you for being intelligent. would you find that fair. then some kids records you getting beat down and they put it on the internet. same here, these models would like to show a more sporty side by being a reporter on the stuff.

Very very big difference. And yes you ought to care. Imagine if you were a male model. From what I heard it's quite a well paying job. Some of the clothes you were wearing could have been quite rauchy, but everything with your consent and nothing above a certain line. Even if you did a nude shot for whatever reason. The important reason is, that it's with your consent and you have some control about what happens with the pictures.

It's basically a similar difference between having sex with someone and getting raped by someone.
