I'm sure this has been discussed but just because I can't remember the last time I saw a thread with this kind of topic or the answer to such a question, I'm throwing this out. So anyway, most of us are pretty much young adults. Say you land up in a volatile situation and it doesn't defuse and escalates into a brawl. The other person who you are fighting with is no different than you. Same stature and though you don't know if he has "skillz" or not let's just assume he's just as good as you. Neither of you have help from some sympathiser(s) that may just decide to drop by and solve the situation or help one or the other duke it out. Both of you are just normal people (i.e. no underworld background with help from the mafia or something). What do you do? Fight or flight? EDIT: And just for laughs lets consider a place that is relatively lawless to the U.S. as in the police and law and order couldn't really care any less about such a situation unless you pay them big bundles (like 10 times more than what they should be getting for a job). Also let's present a second situation as well. You are out with your wife and child. Then you are attacked by someone who IS of an underworld background. Say you can run and there are paths available. Do you still choose to fight to defend your family while they flee or do you choose to flee while helping your family flee?

I'd probably fight on the first one

The second situation is a bit of a silly question, i mean what kind of heartless person wouldn't go and protect their wife and kids?

For the first situation, it would depend what caused the fight to start, and if the cause is actually worth fighting about. Getting into a fight for no reason is just as bad as not fighting for a good one.

Also let's present a second situation as well. You are out with your wife and child. Then you are attacked by someone who IS of an underworld background. I would defend my family. The life of my child would be more important that my own.

Fair enough. But how do you know the other person won't give up after getting a good beating? What if the only way to get him off your back is to hurt him so badly that he may possibly die and even if he doesn't, it turns into a larger situation due to other people discovering about the cause of his injuries and sympathising with him?

The second situation is a bit of a silly question, i mean what kind of heartless person wouldn't go and protect their wife and kids?

No I meant you help them run and once you THINK their in the clear, would you also start making a run yourself?

Violence is a desperate mans' act. I don't fight unless I'm forced to (ex. someone attacking me/my friend/my family). In the second case, it depends on how I view the situation. Can I outrun the man? Can I beat him in a fight? Depending on those answers, I'd choose a course of action.

I'd kick his ass with my wooden leg and rip him a new one with my hook.

For both situations I think flight is the best way to go. Think about it, I mean the only way out is up, so you might as well just get that go-go gadget rotor out and lift off!

Seriously though, first situation flight, second situation fight to protect your family.

Useless violence is for the weak of mind. I only consider fighting an option if someone is going to get seriously hurt if it is avoided, which I assume isn't the case in the first option, so for me running would be the obvious choice.

It doesn't have to be family or friends to motivate an intervention though, I don't like the way criminals can get away with assault, rape and murder without witnesses doing anything, the world would be a slightly safer place if everyone did their best to help instead of shivering in fear or just not caring when they notice a stranger in need.

Fight obviously, it's down as one of the terms of the situation.

[QUOTE=Siddharth Gupta;4797809]Also let's present a second situation as well. You are out with your wife and child. Then you are attacked by someone who IS of an underworld background. Anyone who is of an underworld background is not going to have left you somewhere to run away to.
