Metall_pingwin;4684569Download accelerators are a pile of steaming poop. I want somebody to explain to me, just how a piece of software is going to expand your bandwidth.
Well, the Internet is a series of tubes and when you download something, thousands of tiny minions leg it down the tubes and pick up bits of the file you want, and then carry them back. Then they rebuild the file and place it on your hard disk.
A download accelerator is like a mercenary force; it brings in a few hundred extra tiny minions, only these minions are angry, smoke a lot of cigars, beat the shit out of your regular minions and get very pissed off over very insignificant things. When the tubes break and your download pauses, for example, they will clamber out into the 'real world', find your account manager from your ISP, and slowly dismantle him instead of the file.
Download managers obviously don't work for you because you fail to pay the tiny, mercenary minions enough money and they go and work for somebody else instead.
That's the theory anyway. In practice it has something to do with automatic mirror searching and downloading files in multiple segments simultaneously thus saturating your bandwidth. They are somewhat handy even if you don't notice or need a speed increase, as most of them can resume downloading a file if it was interrupted, and can manage bandwidth usage so that you can continue to browse the internet uninterrupted. I don't use them because they suck donkey balls, however.
I always thought it was a placebo effect too but I don't mind running the tests to see
Homer Gonerson;4687964I think you have that backwards. You should watch what you say to the mods. You might be older, but they are higher on the food chain. Many people have gotten the boot after disrespecting the wrong person, regardless of the age difference.
:rofl:I thought that you would see that as funny but now you make me think that you lack a sence of humor.
Sh0wdowN;4688256You're too old for the Internet.
:smokin: Nobody and i do mean nobody is ever to old for the internet.:smokin:
I have a question for the advertiser:
Why do they keep trying to sell us shoes? Gamers and shoes don't go together very well.
Also, don't double-post.
Since i submitted this thread i have found out something disturbing about the download accellerator. It makes mistakes!!! For instance when it downloads sertain files that you need to make a program run better and that you need to install after downloading you will find that you can't do that cause the file has become something you can't do anything with. So please forget my first "good advice " and remember this one.
I love download.com :)
Haven't tried the accelerator though...is it any good?

If you download anything with a low download speed like 150 kb/s then yes it is good but it depends on the time that you are downloading and keep in mind that it doesn't allways work. Furthermore like i said it makes mistakes. For instance if you have a program called SFC3 than you need a file called: build patch 354 b . If you download it with the accellerator then you can't install it after downloading cause the accellerator changes the file from an exe file into a nonaccessable file. So in that case it won't work.:bawl:
