Before the (popular) advent of facilities like Photobucket and Imageshack I used Geocities briefly just as a dumping ground for any images I wanted to link to elsewhere. I never had a problem linking to them from places like this forum. Though that was years ago now, they could have changed that.

I can't exactly say I ever really used their services, but they have been around for quite some time. With the popularity of many other sites shooting more and more through the roof every day, I can definitely believe that they are closing down. Besides, there are a lot of other free-hosting solutions that 1UP Geocities any day - and if not free, then extraordinarily cheap per month or year.

The end of an era, I suppose. See ya, Geocities.

I've not seen any friend that is still using it for a quite long time.
