BBC NEWS | Technology | Video game helps with fire drill Hehe. Source is good for more than just toppling alien empires and killing terrorists. Jack Thompson's worst nightmare.

Jack Thompson can suck my ass.

We all know that fires skip floors while going up stairwells. :p

OK, but if headcrabs start dropping out of the ceiling in that sim, I'm going to want them to just go ahead and make a game out of it. LOL

On a side note, maybe they could use Ubi's expertise for forest fires. They seem to have mastered dynamic, wind driven fire propagation.

However, while the simulation worked for most people, those who played a lot of video games did rather unusual things. "If a door was on fire, they [gamers] would try and run through it, rather than look for a different exit," said Dr Smith

Those guys are full of win.

Playing on the Source engine teaches you that if you can sprint fast enough through fire, you won't take that much damage. =p

Interesting... but I've never seen a metal staircase (or at least it appeared to be metal on that tiny video) catch fire like that before. Why not modify Far Cry 2 or something, seeing as that has more realistic fire propagation technology built-in?

Do you think they would be amused if they gave you it to try, and you just turned on noclip then flew through a wall to safety of the outside? lol.

And helped change the laws of physics by making fire actually BLOW OUT when it was started by gasoline lamps, instead of causing the fire to spread even more.
