I didn't know where to put this besides possibly spam, so here goes.

It's pretty much winter where I live now. I live on campus but at night I go to work out at our uni's gym. I walk maybe 1/4 mile there in shorts. I wear a coat, but that's the old "heavy clothing" I wear while going there. Am I at risk to get a cold or anything? Some nights it gets damn cold, defintely below freezing with wind blowing hard, maybe 10 'F. Am I in danger?

Thanks.

A 1/4 mile only takes about 10 minutes to do. I don't see a problem with it since it is such a short time.

If you are worried, just wear a pair of sweats over your shorts, and take them off once you get to the gym.

Fingers, toes, and ears are the three big things you want to keep warm, as they will be the quickest to get any damage. So just wear some glove and a hat and you'll probaly be fine on a short walk. If you are sweating when you leave the gym or you took a shower and got water in your ear then you defintly want to wear a hat as the cold combined with teh water in your ear could do damage to the insde of your ear. Atleast that is what I've learned.

Yeah. I think the thing to really watch out for is sweating or being wet form having a shower and then leaving the gym. That could be really dangerous. Just make sure you're dry before you leave.

GUY! What's more important is WHAT you do at the gym.

Just cover your head and hands and you'll be fine, but I'd recommend trousers for added comfort and safety.

1/4 mile isn't much though, so running is the smart thing anyway, that way you won't need to spend more than perhaps a minute in the cold and won't even need any extra clothing, although you better still have a thick cap and gloves in case you get locked outside.
