(DISCLAIMER: 99% OF THIS IS RANTING, PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS TOO SERIOUSLY IF AT ALL!

Also please note that I mean no direct-offense to relgious people or Republicans as a whole, just the majority of people I've encountered in my 18 years of living here)

In this post, I'm going to be doing something that I don't usually like to do, but sometimes I get so riled I can't help but do it. I'm of course talking about complaining. And being that this is America, there's a laundry-list of things you could complain about, but this complaint in particular is about my home state, Georgia.

Now I'm not completely going to demonize this state, there are plenty of good things about it. For example there's: Emory University (Top 20th National University in the nation), the Georgia Institute of Technology (among the top 10 Engineering colleges in the nation), the World of Coke museum as well as the origin of Coca-Cola is here (although that could be considered bad by some), and Elton John has a residence here.

Red Rebel and Monster_User also live here, so it's not all bad :) And there are plenty of other, more important things that I haven't mentioned.

But I suppose my complaint has more to do with the political and religious views of the majority of this state. Over 70% of Georgia is made up of Bible-thumpers and redneck, Fox-News-watching Republicans. Just some of the worst of the worst, not to mention it's the home of such great "intellects" like Neal Boortz and Herman Cain. Not only that, but the capital city of Atlanta is #17 on the top 100 most crime-infested cities in America and is also a magnet for Mexican drug cartels. If you do visit Atlanta, it's almost surreal how the area is set up; on one side you have the Peachtree/Ponce De Leon area which is pretty much every white-Republican's wet dream (rich neighborhoods and big church) and then about 5 miles out you have almost the complete opposite; if you go into the bigger areas of Atlanta, you can't walk 10 feet without having someone beg you for cash or witnessing a drug-deal.

And it's just a crummy state. I mean physically too, in some cities the pavement practically oozes green slime. And a good majority of the population is scared to the point of buying a handgun, even the most rational of citizens.

If you've ever seen Boyz N' the Hood, well.....it's definitely not like that :p

But you get what I mean, to sum it up, it's a haven for rednecks, Southern Baptists, and drug dealers. And again, please don't think of this as a pity-thing, I understand there are far worse places, but Georgia isn't the only bad state, and it's far from having the worst capital city; however, I don't mind occasionally venting to the public what I think about certain things :)

tl;dr

Just watch these videos:

How old are you again? Because assuming you don't have a family of your own yet, moving remains an option.

I don't really believe that Georgia is any worse than any other state. In fact, look on the bright side, its not Alabama!

I would actually be surprised if 70% of the state actually watched Fox. CBS seems to be the most popular station in the central Georgia region.

Just curious, in what city does the pavement practically ooze slime again?

Unfortunately, moving is not an option until I get the chance to opt for a transfer to an out of state school.

Downtown Atlanta, it tried to eat my arm once. But nah, like I said it's nothing more than some good ole' fashioned ranting; I don't mean to complain about things like that, and I don't usually, it's like I've always believed, "we're the sum of our experiences." So I guess you could say I'm just venting based on a few personal experiences.

I certainly wouldn't trade living in Georgia for living in Detroit, MI:

I'll trade you some of the Fox News watching conservatives for some of the MSNBC watching liberals up here who keep voting in idiots who find ways to tax everything then declare our state "open for business." Arg!

I don't know how well you fare in regards to corrupt politicians and stupid judges but we've got plenty up here if you need some. We've got a lot of long dead intellects though.

Don't know how our crime compares.

Alaska is a bit like that, Compnerd. The religion isn't as bad up here but seriously 32489237423% of the population masturbates for 10 hours at a time to Fox News.

While getting a yearly check from the Alaskan government in exchange for letting oil companies operate within/pollute Alaska. Nope, that doesn't strike me as benefiting from "big government" type actions.
