Earth will probably end by the super nova of the sun.

When nanotechnology reaches its pinnacle in 20yrs it will be impossible to die unless you want to die.

Imagine millions of millions of tiny machines 10000x smaller than the width of a human hair flowing through your body mapping out every blood vessel and capillary, repairing damage, and killing infection.

Even if your body was completely destroyed, if just one nano machine survived it could rebuild your body.

When humanity masters nanoscale manufacturing we will become masters of our destiny. We will become untied from the flesh of our bodies. We are nothing but chains of molecules that can be reorganized into any pattern we see fit. When this happens we will become by definition gods on earth.

god- a man of such superior qualities that he seems like a deity to other people; "he was a god among men"

You don't actually believe that, do you? Because if you do, all I can say is, Wow:vikki:

When you notice the earth shaking near a large mountain, and you have evidence that is errupted, you can tell that it is going to erupt in the near future. We know that an asteriod is going to come near us in 2030 becuase we have viewed it, and calculated its path.

I assume you don't belive in simple geology swede if you think I am insane for what I said.

Global wamring won't kill me. I am a good 1200 feet above sea level.

It will be awsome, but I don't know if I am going to go for it. There is something about being able to win your own fights without help that appeals to me.

There is the "gray goop" senario that could destroy the earth. The senario goes like this: A nanobot is misprogramed and begins to use matter around it to make more nanobots. Soon the enitre world is one big clump of nanobots:p A well placed nuclear weapon would stop that if done early enough.

That is not what I reacted at either. I don't think any earthquake or volcano will kill us, not all of us anyway. An asteroid could do the job, but I doubt it will come during my life time. But it was the the little sentence that said:

We won't die out. We are the most advanced species ever to live on this planet.

This is exactly the problem. we are advanced, we are so advanced that we think we can handle an over populated earth. Well a lot of people in the same place creates diseases and those can spread rapidly. And if we catch one of those who we haven't seen before or don't have any cure against, well then we're screwed. In this day of on age, these kind of things travel as fast as our technology can provide. Which is for the "normal" human about 900-1000 km/h (read air plane). And when countries will do everything to stop the air traffic or isolate them selfs, if will already be to late, since its impossible to isolate your self within a matter of hours.

Disease will kill alot of people, but it won't wipe us out. If it were to wipe us out, the disease would no longer have hosts to live in and reproduce. There is also the genetic factor. There are 6 billion of us on eath. A few of us are bound to have hearty enough immune systems to fight off nearly any disease.

The plague did not wipe us out, it simply limited the population. The flu of 1915 did the same thing. If bird flu goes the same way, it will kill a few hundred million, but at the end of the day we will still be on this rock.

Your right, and I've heard the grey goop prediction before. There are always ways around problems like that. The first nanobots might only be able to replicate in certain materials. The first nanobots will most likely be susceptible to EMP so if the a batch turns bad you can have a few square miles sterilized. I personally like the idea of having nodes placed throughout a body. Each node controls smaller nodes which control a group of nanobots. Each node supplies power to those nodes below it. If something goes wrong with a nanobot or a group of nanobots the node shuts the group off and preforms diagnostics. With technology on the nanoscale it will be feasible to have an AI governing the system.

sovereign001 2. We get hit by a huge asteroid..

I doubt the whole "AAHHHHhhh..... A Asteriod" thing, with all the technology we have, surely we can divert the course of a asteriod far enough to avoid a collision with earth. As long as were not dumb and try to blow it up, i think it could be avoided.
