Perhaps a strange question but It came up with me last Saturday when I went out downtown with some collegues, when a female collegue left to home together with an other female classmate of hers we (the whoel group of collegues) exchanged kisses on the cheeks (as is normal) and I then had to think how common such a thing would be in any other random country of your choice.

Obviously i'm not talking about kissing your partner, but I was just wondering how normal it is to kiss other people other then your partner in whichever place you live.

Overhere in the Netherlands, and probably a large part of Europe it's quite normal/common to kiss friends, good collegues and families on the cheek at lets say familyvisits, parties etc.

It's can either be done when meeting eachother as a warm welcome or more common as when leaving, in both cases you give three kisses to eachother: Ones on the left/rigth, then the opposite side and then the previous side again.

The only "odd" thing is that while a woman can kiss an other woman (and obviously people of the opposit sex can kiss eachother freely) a man can't kiss an other man. Now we are all used to this but if you look at it its rathe r strange that two woman can kiss eachother on the cheek but males can't, this type of kiss afterall only is to confirm friendship and doesn't has a sexual meaning to it.

So how common is it kiss in your country, what unwritten "rules" apply etc.?

My experience is that it's very uncommon to kiss someone else than your partner here.

Not really a common thing in the UK. Usually just it's hugs for the ladies, and good manly handshakes between the lads.

Mind you i'm not talking about mouth-to-mouth kissing (by it lips to lips or with the tongue). I don't know other then it's normal to kiss people you "know" (except man, they get a good handshake).

It doesn't happen here, or at least it's thankfully rather rare. Girls run screaming at each other with their arms open for a hug, (Hey, opening scene for lesbian porno movies :naughty: ) but kissing each other seems to be a no-no.

Oh yes, and men either do the handshake thing or slink away surreptitiously. ;)
