Is there something I'm missing?

Go to college because everyone's doing it and because you have more options that way, only to find out your degree is worthless because everyone is doing it and your major doesn't really matter anyway.

Don't drop out of college because then you won't have as many opportunities to miss out on missed out opportunities because you have a degree.

Teach only what the school wants to teach and then expect you to major in what you love, while in the next breath saying you should just pick a major and don't worry because it doesn't define your life or career.

Is this thing on?

I get college can be a way to study what you like with colleagues...kind of like....a college of some sort, but that doesn't seem to be the intent. The intent seems to be to get job skills. So if you can't afford job skills you don't deserve a job, and if you can't get some other form of aid you just weren't smart enough to get a scholarship or start your own business and become the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs.

And my parents wonder why I drink so much bourbon

It's funny you mentioned bill gates and Steve jobs, considering both those men dropped out of college :p

Indeed. Well it's like so many people don't see an in-between when it comes to personal goals and aspirations. Either you get a degree or you become a self-made millionaire.

It's too bad there's very few schools that actually teach entrepreneurial skills and theories. Maybe then we'd actually get more of those. But either way...I think we've got bigger problems than that.
