IDEA::stallard: WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO CREATE MY OWN(OR A) INTREPID WITH RISING WARP NAECELLES WHEN THE SHIP GOES TO WARP AND LOWERS WHEN AT SUB-LIGHT SPEEDS?

To answer your question, no. BC does not support animated models.

Don't believe that.

I've seen mods here like no-bodies business, doing things they didn't do in release. The latest to these impossible things was the light flickering with nanofx mod.

Don't tell me it's impossible, cos someone will figure out how to MAKE IT POSSIBLE.

Just a friendly warning when you say something can't be done.

Maybe, but if I'm right all model animation is done by morphing, and yet we have animated bridge crew, so I think it could be done. It would just take a slight 're-appropriation' of code.

At this point the only thing I can think of to be animated is the intrepid class for warp and the bird of prey class for combat mode.

Which brings me onto another idea about cloaking. Now you remember years ago when the voodoo 1 was just out they had some technology demos.

Well they had this model of a statue of anubis that was all reflective, well supposed to be anyway. I say that because the technique they used was a static texture of something else (I think it was an image of an apartment block or something).

Anyone who knows this technique will know what I'm on about, so anyway the idea is this. Take this effect and replace the base reflection map image with a starfield. Now the over-all effect of this poor-mans reflective mapping would create a really cool cloaking effect (well miles better than the boring old 'oh look lets turn the polygons transparent' trick).

As we all know, cloaked ships disort light, therefore with this sort of chromeing effect using a starfield (the base starfield image will be distorted by the chromeing effect) we'd get that sort of predator effect on the ship.

Might be worth someone looking into this if it's possible, may look really cool.

Yeah but last time I came up with an idea on planets with weather systems and city lights as glow maps no one even bothered to come back on that thread.
