what do you think?
Well....I would like to meet him in person. One of my greatest admirations. But if he were to be alive today, perhaps five years earlier, he'd definitely bring up the hopes of winning this war early.
The movie portrayed him as a screwball kind of guy, really afraid and insecure. I don't think I'd like to meet him.
And what if Atatürk was alive today? He's probably doing 1000 rpm in his grave.
He would be retired and on life support and as nutty as a fruit cake....HONEST
barbatos66;3819924He'd go kick some ass.
He'd be 121 years old.....
General Patton was competent, determined & bold military commander but his political views would be outdated and even dangerous for today's world. General Patton could do only little to end the war in Iraq unless he would get 200 000 more troops or start total war ala Göbbels against insurgency & terrorists.
Well, without getting to political, the "war" in Iraq is pretty much unwinnable for the USA/UK. Its a loose-loose situation either way.
If patton was alive today, hed be in prison for being a racist, warmongering psycopath.
Also, on the topic of Patton - quoting him in your sig IS NOT COOL. Weve heard the quotes before. We dotn need to hear them again. Sick of the fact that he is so over*miss*quoted (as its often wrong too).
I'm way cooler than n0e (who isn't though?)

Don't just him off a movie, don't ever judge a personality off a movie. While the film stayed true to the history of the man, it did nothing to hide the more brutal and elitist side to him. If anything, it helped portray it more than it actually was.

His hate for the Russians and Nazis, along with dis-like for African Americans would have caused quite a lot of problems. But I prefer to view him as a kind of secret weapon. If we had such an effective commander today, yet kept under control, the war on terror would have run a helluva lot smoother.

That's a tad ignorant of you. "Well, without getting to political, the "war" in Iraq is pretty much unwinnable for the USA/UK. Its a loose-loose situation either way." Stop listening to the media. America has done a lot of good in Iraq in my opinion, but the politicians handling the situations have lost sight of their original purpose. Yes going to Iraq was justified by defending those who died in 9/11, Yes today things are just awry and becoming ridiculous. If America were to pull out now the country would be in a far worse state. But that isn't the topic of this conversation, so I don't know why you brought it up.
Patton was a soldier, and he did his job effectively and efficiently. He had his flaws of course, and they were deep. I think you'd find that a lot of people would have shared his views at the time. And quite possibly there are many that share something similar today.
People have the right to Quote Patton in their sigs, I myself am a fan of some of his quotes. If someone mis-quotes them, so what? That's their ignorance, not yours. Move on already.
I admire Patton, while he was a crazy bastard he certainly had good techniques for getting things done.
