I thought this article was funny, it reminded me of O'Grady on Velonews How We Became the United States of France - TIME

We've always dismissed the French as exquisitely fed wards of their welfare state. They work, what, 27 hours in a good week, have 19 holidays a month, go on strike for two days and enjoy a glass of wine every day with lunch — except for the 25% of the population that works for the government, who have an even sweeter deal. They retire before their kids finish high school, and they don't have to save for a $45,000-a-year college tuition because college is free. For this, they pay a tax rate of about 103%, and their labor laws are so restrictive that they haven't had a net gain in jobs since Napoleon. There is no way that the French government can pay for this lifestyle forever, except that it somehow does.

Bush is the one in favor of the bailouts. Oh, SNAP!

I was lead to believe Obama wanted the bailouts as well. Again, le sigh.

My kids haven't finished highschool, where's my retirement?

Anyway I wouldn't say the US is exactly the epitome of a welfare state.

I was going to say if Obama gets elected then yeah we will have the pussy-whip government of France…but given the people around him won’t shut the hell up and the latest attempt to silence a host on a left leaning talk show in Chicago is not boding well for Obama, his poll numbers just won’t climb around McCain. Also many American’s are petrified with nuclear power so not quite like France. They at least have the sense to use nuclear power, which at least solves one of the problems that continues to plague the rest of Europe and the US.

More like a total joke. Same goes to the article linked to which uses words such as "frog" which probably isn't meant as a compliment unless this is the kindergarden version where coun tries are represented by animals such as pigs, dogs, rabbits, horses, mules, frogs, birds and so on.

Having said all that, America would probably be doing pretty well if it were like France. Nothing wrong with France or the French govermen (well I don't like Sarcozi, he has "slippery eel" written all over him and his fake smile but that is an other story).

France is a great country (too bad that their live French people... kidding, just line we use in a jokingly manner overhere and is mostly aimed at snobbish stereotype arrogant rench people who refuse to speak a single foreign word and wil throw cheese and wine at you while spitting in your face for not being able to speak French beyond "Je ne comprend pas" and "Je ne parle vous Francais"). :)
