And it wasn't really my fault. I wasn't speeding (was doing 40-45mph in a 60mph zone), caught something on the wheel (maybe mud, or moss or something), started to skid, lost control, plowed right into a very tough tree (it stood its ground), bounced off said tree then rolled, and ended upside down, in the middle of the road. The road conditions were wet, that was it, and then I take into account that I've been driving for three years, and haven't had a single accident. The first accident I do have, ends up with my roof caved in, and the car being scrap. However, things could have been a lot worse. There were four of us in the car, and none of us were seriously hurt. I escaped with a burnt / bruised / battered arm (nothing serious, only minor), and me and another friend have a bit of a stiff neck. The other two are fine. All things considered, I / we were unlucky (in that it happened), but at the same time, lucky, that it wasn't worse, and that we are all hear to talk about it. Just goes to show really, you can be the safest driver out there, and can be sensible, but if your luck is out, or the weather conditions aren't brilliant, there ain't much that you can do. If its going to happen, just brace yourself! Just something I thought I'd share this, and ask if anyone has any similar stories to tell.

That reminds me of two winters ago...I had been driving for a little over a year at that point, so it was my second winter season.

I was doing 10-15 miles per hour in a 25mph zone, because it was a downhill road and covered in snow; the town's plows hadn't gotten to it yet. About one third of the way down the mile long hill, my tires suddenly lost contact with the ground and my car started sliding down the hill and spinning. At that point there was nothing more I could do; the road didn't even have enough friction to prevent me from sliding at 10mph, so there was no way in hell I could regain control.

Through an extremely lucky toss of the galactic dice, nobody else was on the road as my car ended up sliding the rest of the way down the hill and finally came to a stop in someone's front lawn, probably not even 4 feet from the nearest tree. I was able to drive off.

The very next day, I bought a set of 4 brand new winter tires and installed them on the spot. =p

Considering all the other things that could have happened (which I've thought about), we are all very lucky not to have come off worse.

I don't understand what you mean... Lucky that you were only going 10-15mph. If you were doing the limit, chances are, you'd have ended up in the living room, and not the garden. [QUOTE=Zamamee;4910207]The very next day, I bought a set of 4 brand new winter tires and installed them on the spot.

 I don't blame you one bit.

The thread title makes it sound like you just finished paying the monthly payments on the car. Ironic that you totalled it, though. You and your friends are lucky SOBs.

Quite the opposite. I've two-three months Insurance left on it, have not long had an MOT (passed), and I've got my Tax through till Janurary.

A couple of months ago (like sept. 05/08) Heavy fog+farm land=hazard. Oh boy did I learn that the hard way. Didn't see the stop sign and went into a ditch the ditch was 15 foot drop too! My car or my Dads care was a write off. I walked away my wrist was in cast for a while my nose was bloody and my left hand had the Saturn logo in it! I missed Telephone pole by a few feet...and a tree. That was one hellva a day!

But does anybody listen? Nooo. Maybe now the police will listen to my suggestion and start slicking up the roads. Sorry about your accident though. I've never had a car crash myself (I am, after all, an exemplary driver who has barely driven 1,000 miles in the last 2 years), although I've had a couple of cars hit me while I've been cycling. That hurts. [QUOTE=N88TR;4910059]Could've died. Been a story for us to read, more interesting.

He wouldn't have been around to write it though, you daft sod!
