I'm looking for millitary meuseums in my area. I know there are alot of good museums in Europe, on the West Coast, in Kentuckey, and in Virginia but I'm looking for some place I can go for just a weekend or so. In particular I'm looking for good armored museums, some place that might have a decent number of tanks and weapons and other such things. I've done a few google searches and nothing came up so I thought I would ask here.

Anything ni Michigan or the surrounding states would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

I saw that one and it is on my lsit of maybes. What I'm really looking for is a place that has a atleast somewhat large number of tanks and other armored vehicles, that one is mostly small exhibits(atleast as far as I can tell)

I doubt there is anything on the scale of some of the mmuseums in Europe and Russia but I was hopnig there might be something comparable.

Well in Chicago IL there is a military museum called Cantigny(sp I think). But it has 10 or 12 tanks you can like climbe on and then an actuall museum. But if you go to see that bring the golf clubs cause it also has a kick ass golf course in the area. Really, really nice.

I bet there's some navy ships you can visit in Chicago. I know there's a WWII submarine there.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I've been looking for something to do during Winter break and I've already gone to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio for the past two years.

Yeah it's sweet. I'v been inside of it. It's as the Science and Industry museum. Which if you're looking for a good museum, that's where it's at.

Here's a link for the Museum i mentioned earlier http://www.rrmtf.org/firstdivision/firstdivision.htm

It sounds like maybe going to Chicago and checking out that museum along with the ships could make for a full weekend. Thanks for all the help.

You could make a full weekend out of museum hopping in Chicago. If you're interested in more than just military stuff, there's quite a few museums in Chicago. There's the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum, the planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, the Art Institute, and probably quite a few more I can't think of off the top of my head. It's really a neat place for that kind of stuff.

On another note, I just visited the USS Yorktown the other day (in South Carolina, so probably a bit far for you :p). Neat stuff there, though if the Clamagore (submarine) was any indication, then I'm a bit too tall to ever be in the navy :p. Not that I was planning on it...
