hi,ive just got a hold of 3dmax so i can make a ship for bridge commander, i am very new at this so i have got a few questions if anyone could help me please:
1. where can i get hold of 3dmax models for ships such as the constitution, miranda and excelsior class ships?
2.how do i do my own textures?
3.is there any way i can use the ships in my game to try out my modelling practice?
thanx for ur help :)
http://www.bcfiles.com/sort.files?cat=1155&ref=639
is the link to 3dmax models in bcfiles and look around for tutorials on how to mod, you will need the sdk from bcfiles to put it into a game along with many things and if you have max 4 or higher you will need nif2nif and java runtime enviroment search the forums and you will figure out what you need ok
good luck scotty
nice one m8 i apreciate the help but is there a way for me to use ships like my excelsior class that i already have ingame?
i think you need to change the files to NIF format before you can use them ingame you also have to create hardpoints and other scripts for the ship.
you have to export it to nif format then you can use the sdk to get it in game (if you have max 4 or higher you wil need nif2nif to convert it to the right nif format to run nif2nif you will need JRE java runtime enviroment from www.sun.com)
ps if you have max 3.1 you dont need to worry bout converting it to the right nif with nif2nif it there is a plugin in the sdk which will turn it to the right nif when you export it. You will have to move the plugin into max though
ok scotty
thank you for all ur help but is there a way to convert a .nif format ship back into a .3ds or .max file so i can edit the ships???
i dont think so but i think you can import it back into max
do u know how i can covert it back into max format? i would apreciate any more help
sorry i just tried and i can't u need the import plugin
You can't reverse engineer NIF files, there is a deconverter in existance but activision (and other BC modders) requested that it not be used.
Sorry
