Is there any reason to enroll onto dojos/clubs/clans/groups that teach you Martial arts?

In fact, do martial arts even increase your defense capabilities at all? I don't get this point, I've seen many people who have learnt martial arts get beaten by people with brains. or Are these clubs just to keep you fit? Hell, most of these "moves" I've seen are mostly used in conjunction with brains ('cept for you lucky gags who managed to do it without brains).

Give me a reason, to put that friend of mine back where his mouth belongs. I'm a little tired of him claiming he can beat me easily just cause he learnt a few tricks from his friend.

P.S. The 'Beat ups' are usually just friend to friend demostration or such, if your gonna say one of them might have let the other off easily, I can tell you they don't like to play that way.

P.S.2. No, I don't bully people, neither do I fight often.

First off, your friend just sounds like a kid who thinks because he has learnt a few moves he is invincible, when in reality, he can't do shit. If someone has learnt martial arts and they are beaten by people with brains as you say, they most likely never learnt their skills properly or aren't clever enough to use them in the correct manner.

Martial Arts is a skill that you must hone for years to take full advantage of, and I can tell you whole heartedly and from personal experience, it increases your defence skills exponentially.

A person who does martial arts typically has a greater muscle 'twitch' allowing them to have much faster reactions, better running ability and muscle tone. Those are just a few examples, but the stretches and moves benefit you a great deal.

You also seem to have this focus on it as a physical ability rather than a mental one. During my time learning Freestyle and Judo I was taught how to keep a calm physce and had the proper way to deal with various situations drilled into me.

Basically, I'd call it an almost essential skill. People can go on about knowing how to use a gun and so on, but if someone gets in close and knows what they are doing, well, you're pretty much fucked. The only way someone can take away your Martial Arts ability is to break your body.

well, i do martial arts, and i have a certain experience in it. it does give you more defence capabilities, if you keep training them with determination and concentration. the mistake is that many of those young stupid retards, want to show of with it, when they are totaly lacking in skills and don't "understand" it yet. i never tell people i do these sports, i'll never use them. only when necesary. because what i have learned in my years of training, is to fight, defense myself, and even kill someone. this is why martial arts require a mental training as well, as you have to realize that it is made for protection of you and others, not to show off. because before you can 'pwn" the others, you have to endure many defeats and pain. our trainers walk over our stumachs when we are doing leg raises. why? so we become hard, and we can resist punches and stuff. you may not make up your mind of martial arts, because of a young boy who shows off with it, without experience and love for the sport. ofcourse in the first place the sport is to stay fit, but it is more made for self defence.

But somehow, someway enough brains can turn around the situation right?

E.g. the sweep the leg as you push his chest thingy from judo or something. if your opponent already knows this trick, and has the brains he can counter this?

and martial arts is more like a reflex training and a couple more new tricks?

yes, martial arts is something that requires perfect cooperation between brain and body, you may have as much power you want. if you don't have teh tactics, you will lose of someone who has. i have taken down persons of twice my age, twice my weight, and much taller than me, just with tactics and knowledge and technique and being master of my body

You need to actually take martial arts classes to understand it. It's not as systematic as a video game.

That's right, blame mainstream entertainment for the stupidity of society.
