Hey everyone. Well, at the beginning of January our science teacher gave all her classes a worksheet and told them to do a "Moon Calander" (that would be me included). In other words every night we look out, find the moon, write down its direction, phase, angle, etc. She must have done this before and knew its effects, because the second thing she said was that if she finds out that anybody was sharing "records" then the sharer and the person who got the answer both get 0's on this project that is about a quarter of our grade for this marking period. I wasn't looking out for cheaters, but the fact is when you have 3-4 very loud chatty girls and one boy sitting next to you in homeroom, practically screaming in your face, "ZOMG DID YOU SEE TEH MOON LAST NIGHTT!!!!111GIMME ANSWERS!!!!" it's hard to not hear them. In fact three of my four other table-mates in science every day have been comparing moon charts and cheating off each other if they haven't done it. What should I do? My friendship with these people at the science table is already straining for other reasons, like trying to prevent a very violent Spanish play from going on-stage (I already practically knocked out my friend's tooth during a practice). I don't want to lose pretty much my best friends at school. Since both my best friends are interconnected if I lose one I lose both. The four people in homeroom I don't really care about, but I don't want to give them an F. Despite this I still feel like I should tell the teacher as a matter of honor if you will. Even if they are my friends They shouldn't be doing this and they haven't listened to me before about it. I tried twice and because they just don't listen I gave up talking about it. Help please!

Hmph. Personally, I wouldn't care. It's their choice. Although I could do it just for kicks; anyhow, that's beside the point. If they're not close friends, then it doesn't matter; and even more so if they're a bunch of randoms who just don't care enough.

Just do it, although not personally. Write an anonymous note to the teacher (make sure the handwriting on the note is different from your normal one).

I don't approve of cheating. I don't really do anything about it when I see it, though. If your friends get caught, it will hardly be your fault, will it?

You might point out that they get an F. Maybe they didn't understand it the first time.

Or just don't care and go on with your life hoping that they will learn from it.

What he said.

As long as you are ok with your decisions on whether to cheat or not I don't see how it would be beneficial to you or the teacher if you ratted your "friends" out. Just take into account I said, "RATTED." If your almighty teacher is able to catch cheaters (which I highly doubt, I think it's just a scare tactic) as easily as he/she claims to be able to, then your teacher will catch them and justice will be served in the matter fitting to their "crime." When you enter the "workforce" and join the rest of us mindless boobs in the "real world," the best advice I can give is: when trying to keep a job 25% is showing up on time and 75% is keeping your mouth shut. Perhaps you can mold that to school or friends?

Thought about that too..

Personally, I would tell the teacher to fuck off for wasting my time with this BS. Thats whats wrong with schools these days. They make kids do pointless crap like record moon phases....

I had to do this freshman year in HS and record for a week. Instead I did the whole "week" chart 5 minutes before the class by just guessing. I usually never did any HW that I thought was pointless aka busywork.

I think them not getting an F would be the thing to worry about. If they get away with cheating in education, and think it is right because they thus have recieved no punishment, how will that affect their judgement in later life?

Not your problem. It's the teacher's job to maintain discipline. You don't want to become known as the school snitch, do ya? Nobody likes a grass!
