Hey, Can any modders out there make it so a tractor beam actually holds a ship in place. You know, so that you can tow a ship around? I think that would be cool, But have no idea how to do it, if it can be done :uhm:

Is it correct in my assuming that you're having problem with the tractor beam not being strong enough to enable you to hold a ship as you move away from it? If it is so, I think this can be solved by increasing the damage factor of the tractor beam, either manually or using MPE. You'll have to edit the .py file of every ship that you want to be able to do this 'though.

or maybe the problem is when it is strong enough to hold when moving, it is too strong when you stop...can cause problems. Ingame, you need to judge the strength at each distance well. We need a variable tractor beam. Tractors that can slow escaping ships, ones that can hold tight and tow, and ones for docking etc that reel in their catch.

i have a fix. you readjust your tractor beam for more power, for like bases. you have multiple beams that will pull you in then dead center it. but make sure they won't pull the ship into the walls or pylons (ds9 mod is terrible for that). for towing, readjust your tractor beams damage (same as power) to a really high number. this allows you to push objects instead of towing at top speeds. towing im not really sure of. but i do know that you can push stuff if you adjust the damage settings on the beam.

in the ship you want to adjust the settings, just open its hardpoint and find the tractor beam. then adjust the damage part of it. like i said its useful for pushing, now towing. it still can't move a base unless its ds9 as a ship and not a base.

i wonder if it posible to mod the tractor beam so it looks more like the show rather then a stupid texture remake of the phaser effects.

If you want to push a ship with a tractor you have to set the tractor damage (same as power) to a negative number.

ie. -800 (this would push a enemy ship away) ie. 1000 (this would be a fairly strong tractor)
