http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/09/08/nurse.intruder.ap/index.html

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) -- A nurse returning from work discovered an intruder armed with a hammer in her home and strangled him with her bare hands, police said.

Susan Kuhnhausen, 51, ran to a neighbor's house after the confrontation Wednesday night. Police found the body of Edward Dalton Haffey 59, a convicted felon with a long police record.

Police said there was no obvious sign of forced entry at the house when Kuhnhausen, an emergency room nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center, got home from work shortly after 6 p.m.

Under Oregon law people can use reasonable deadly force when defending themselves against an intruder or burglar in their homes. Kuhnhausen was treated and released for minor injuries at Providence.

Kudos to her. That is nuts.

Whoa, and she's 51 too.

And I think killing him was justified. He had a hammer as a weapon; he wouldn't carry it if he didn't intend on using it.

Not necesarilly true. He could've carried it to "scare" others. I don't think killing him was justified.

He could also have carried it because he wanted to open a lock. Difficult to say without knowing the whole stroy.

O RLY? So what would you have done, invited him in for tea and discuss the issue at hand? Oh wait, he already invited himself in. I mean, WTF, the guy broke into her home, who knows what he was going to do. You may not think it's justufied but the law does and that is all that matters. One less asshole on this earth can't be all that bad.

She didn't kill him, they said he was released from a hospital with minor injuries. Good for her though.
