There was a small debate in a smaller sub-forum here that was concerning a Easter egg within a community made mod for dawn of war ( a M rated Game) which shows some concept art of one female model fully naked. I have seen the easter egg before and I didn't think anything of it until people started complaining that the nudity that was presented in the mod shouldn't of been in the mod and they were wrong for what they did.

Further more it sparked another debate that nudity in games and movies was a bad thing and the effects it has on children and adult in contrast to violence and gore shown in the "vannilla" game.

What is your stand in the matter? Is nudity really a bad thing and can it ever be to excesssice when compared to gore in movies?

I believe that censorship is wrong. In the words of Talk Show host Neal Bortz: "If you don't want to listen/watch something, that's what the knobs are for." If you don't want yourself or your kids to be exposed to something, then stay away from it. It's your choice.

So long as entertainment is properly rated so people know what is in the game, I don't see the problem with nudity. I find it hard to believe people on here actually complained about nudity, usually it is just people who have never played a video game in their life that do so.

We were born nude. Our clothes are not to cover ourselves up for modesty sake (or rather, that isn't why we started wearing clothes) it's to protect us from the environment. There is nothing wrong with the human body, it is a beautiful thing really. (Except for fatties. lol)

I think the hyper-sexualised stigma surrounding naked people is responsible for a lot of the crimes that go on in the world. If people got their fill of naked without all the complaining around it they'd see it's not that great anyway. A kid ought to be able to go into a store and buy porno mags the same as anyone else, it shouldn't even be an issue when it shows up in computer games. Oh god the naked body, I'm sure they've never seen that before.

This idea that the naked body is something we have to protect children from is primarily the Rich Western Man's idea. Exercise control over what people can wear, what they can look at, limit it to a few sacrements - marriage, etc. And by that measure you exercise control over their wider lives through the access to those sacrements. The world is not going to end, people are not going to go around suddenly being twisted by it.

I tell you if I ever have a family and they want porno mags or what have you I'll provide them. This censorship crap is just BS. The only people who benefit from it are those who have a moral stick up their arse who want to make everyone else as uncomfortable with the world as they are.

Well it depends on where you live, here in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe its allowed for women to show there breasts in public ads, as in nipples as well, but for some reason they take swearing alot more seriously then the Westerners do.

I don't see how gore and violence is more appropriate then nudity, after all nudity is more of a sexual pleasure and then the "But kids are gonna see it!" dude its a rated M game, its the parents fault.

Erm...with regards to pornography, I don't think it's just the nudity that legislators are worried about. The pornographic industry does quite a lot to try and objectify women, which isn't really all that great for an adolescent's development. Plus, there's some pretty sick stuff out there.

We should put nudey bits into every game and film. Just to screw with the naysayers.

People who get offended by seeing nakedness should be blinded. Either that or they should wear blindfolds every time they take a shower or get dressed.

I really don't get why people see nudity as such a bad thing. So you're not wearing clothes. Big fucking deal. :/

With regards to Mr. Pedantic's comment about the porn industry objectifying women, they're appealing to a primarily male market, plus if anyone is that easily swayed then they obviously aren't responding to other environmental factors in their development.

It's quite funny really; nudity/sex can be (and is) used to sell almost anything, you only need to look at your average 10 minute sequence of TV adverts to see that. Yet for whatever reason, people seem to think seeing a penis in a vagina is going to severely mess up the mental health of a child.

It shows women only in a certain light, true, but there's a difference between showing a certain aspect of a thing and convincing people that's all there is to a thing. I've yet to see any convincing evidence that the porno industry does objectify women.

That's a conveniently flexible definition. :uhm:

Well doesn't violence, gore and war kinda objectify life?
