NEW YORK (AP) -- Three years after the city banned smoking in restaurants, health officials are talking about prohibiting something they say is almost as bad: artificial trans fatty acids.

The city health department unveiled a proposal Tuesday that would bar cooks at any of the city's 24,600 food service establishments from using ingredients that contain the artery-clogging substance, commonly listed on food labels as partially hydrogenated oil.

I am all for this even though it's a bit slippery. Nobody should eat trans fats, especially the way Americans like to eat them. This oughta be fun to watch...

Well one thing is for sure, NYC isn't what it used to be. The liberal capital of the world:uhm: They banned smoking some years ago, and no they will ban even more things. IMO they need to drop the ban-hammer:)

They banned smoking because it was harming other people..its totally unfair for us to breathe in that shit..just because your addicted.

America is a FAT country..these fats are horrible for you. Theres much better things you can use. Cost shouldnt be a factor when it comes to health.

1984 here we come.

"she only questioned the teachings of the Party when they in some way touched upon her own life. Often she was ready to accept the official mythology, simply because the difference between truth and falsehood did not seem important to her."

Part 2, Chapter 5, pg. 154

A decade from now when the city governments are following suite and telling you what you can eat I wonder if you'll still think it was a good idea.

Becasue it harmed people? Noooooooo, for real? Wow, I seem to learn something new everyday:rolleyes:

Yes of course it's becasue I'm addicted to smoking. But NYC is supposed to be the liberal capital of the world, and bans don't belong in a liberal place. Cigarettes have been around for a long time. You didn't hear people complain in the older days. Sure they didn't have on paper that the smoke was dangerous, but anyone who is breathing smoke in their throat can make a conclusion that it's not good for you.

I wonder how it would been if you lived 20 years ago or more, when the attitude were different...

Ah, I remember the days when we sat in the school diner and smoked (yes indoor). Those where the days:nodding:

Bs, If you don't like the way an establishment is run, don't go in there. If a restaurant decides to have a smoking section, then you don't need to eat there if it offends you, you don't need to work there. Plenty of other places. And about the whole " FAT " issue ? It is all about the individuals control and what he/she eats... If you eat that two pounds of spaghetti with the 8oz ladle of sauce over it and the 5 oz of mozzarella cheese melted over 2 oz of sauce and a crispy fried chicken breast ... Then go home and not work out, you deserve every CALORIE you just got and every TRANS FAT you won't work out. It is about watching what you eat and working out. PERIOD Just to let you know, i owned a restaurant. So if that doesn't qualify me for those facts , i don't know what does.

But don't forget these fatties are clogging up the healthcare system. I doubt this will pass but I kind of like the idea. They are looking out for our health you can't argue that but it could lead to more dangerous things...slippery.

Unlike England the US doesn't have a socialist healthcare system. If people want to kill themselves then let them. Smoking in those sort of places I'm against, but if people want to eat the wrong kind of fat that's their watchout.

But why clog our Doctors up with illegals, smokers and fatties when it could be avoided? There are alternative ingredients that can be used, USE them.

you know what >? Suicide: it's only ilegl if you mess it up. They are looking out for your best interests here also ...... I don't need my government telling me what i can and can not eat, nor do i need them telling me what to cook it in .... People know it is "dangerous" yest they go ahead and eat it anyways. Because ?
