Its been quite some time since I last opened up to the forum, so I just thought it was due time for another personal soul search from me.

anyway, I've been in college for a few months and I noticed that I don't really have anyone I could consider a good friend. I have like 3 people I talk to occasionally. I have an incredibly loner personality. I do try to be active, I mean I'm part of like 8 clubs, I just don't talk.

I don't talk because I don't know what to say, I feel like I'm butting in on peoples conversation, and just generally being annoying. I just don't know how to be social I guess.

There's nothing wrong with being a bit of a loner.

That said, do you go to clubs for things you actually like or do you just go to stay active? How about societies for the subjects you take? Or a chess club, something like that. They're generally better places to get talking to people than sports clubs....

computernerd;5588416And your problem is? =p[/QUOTE] That I feel that I'm too much of a loner and could possibly be happier in life if I was a little more social =p

Well the clubs are martial arts, dance, fencing, and several research groups in the biology department.

You do know how to be social. You're doing it here on an almost daily basis. Communication is what you struggle with, I've read a bunch of studies that were researching how things like being social on the internet decrease real-life communication. Communication is a skill, if you neglect it (which it seems you have, I have as well) you'll get worse at it. I've spent a while now re-learning how to communicate properly. It sounds pretty dumb, but that's how it is.

Try drinking, you'll say stuff you could regret, but that sounds like more than you're currently trying. =p

Basically what Schofield says, except for the drinking... =p

What you do in... RL, to say, is just about the same we do here.

I don't think it's bad to be a loner, but that depends completely on the person... I love to be a loner, since I really dislike the presence of people usually, but yeah, that's me. ^^

If you want to be less of a loner, I suggest that you look for something you really like, like a hobby or so, and then try to find someone to share that with... Could be just one guy/girl or even a whole comunity.

I have plenty of hobbies. I mean I know several people in the parkour club, but no one I could call my best friend. I find starting conversations difficult (as stated above) but its mostly just because I feel like a pest.

You could try branching out. Do something that you enjoy, even if other people think it's lame. Chances are, that you'll meet other people who enjoy doing the same thing, and from that mutual enjoyment, build a new friendship.

Basically, do what you do on these forums, but in real life. ;)

EDIT: Try not to come on "too strong" though. That might make people feel pressured by you.

The only reason it's difficult is because of this obvious reason: On here you're an anonymous entity, in real life people can see you for who you are. =p

So yeah just do what you do here.
