Could someone please tell what i need to read a PYC file, i have some ships hardpoint files in my copy of BC that i cant open, and they dont have a PY file, i was hoping to read them with the models property system but ive had no luck so far, is it me doing something wrong or what, could some one please help, i only want to use them for myself, and i only want to balance them to the ships i already have in the game.

Well, the only way you can change the .pyc files is to de-compile them with a Python application. Don't know where you can get one though. :(

I just remembered a link that a guy sent me that will de-compile .pyc scripts online.

http://defiant.homedns.org/~st/bc_main.php?bc=decompyle

Let me know if it works.

Open them in notepad. That works for me and everyone else.

If you are trying to edit the original game .PYC files, you should go download the System Developer Kit (SDK). It includes all the original game .PY files that you can open and look at the script. As for a custom .PYC file, you should try searching for Python Decompilers in a search engine. Also, try "decompyle", a program that decompiles the .PYC scripts, but I never got it to work myself.

well i got the decompyle system, and python, but i just dont no what to do with them,or how to config them, or work them, i think i will have to give up, i tried the link, thanks for that dharbert, it seemed easy, you send them the PYC and they decompyle it for you, i did that, it does say the you will have to wait a long time, so i did, in the end my internet cut off, so i will have to try later.

Hello :) The "real" Link is http://StarTrek.webhop.info/?show=stbc&bc=decompyle

And if you waited more then 5 minutes - you waited too long - there were some bugs it. Now it is really working fine. You do not have to wait more then 30seconds. If you got any problems - just tell me!

If you just want to open Hardpoint files the MPE will decompile them for you. When you are opening a hardpoint file for a ship, type *.pyc and press enter this will give you a list of all the .pyc files.

Then when you save your changes it will make a new .py for you.
