It was my understanding that if you retook a class and passed with a significantly higher grade, it would replace your previous grade. Am I insane for thinking this?

I think you're insane for wanting to retake a course you already passed.

I didn't, that's why I retook it.

But, according to some college forums, transcripts print both grades, but the highest one is the only one that's counted for transferring purposes.

I reckon yes. I retook a color pencil drawing class in a kindergarden in Finland and it replaced the number. Hope this helps.

Isn't this a question for the college people? The ones who know this stuff and are paid to answer these questions? Just saying...

This is one of those things could well vary per college or university. You'll have to ask one of the officials.

For what it's worth at the university I attend any retake (be it exam or course) nullifies the previous grade if the new grade is higher.

In my experience (school, college & university in Scotland) the reason you re sit an exam is that you failed the first shot. It isn't possible to re sit if you passed (regardless if you only just scraped by the first go). Therefore the second go around will count (assuming you pass), but the fact that it took two attempts will be on your result transcript.

YMMV, if you are not studying in Scotland from 2002 - 2008, of course...

You mean 40 credits? Man it's been so long I don't even remember how the credit points system works...

Unless you mean something else? In which case, I don't know what you mean.
