These folks have been doing something that brings a lot of respect from me, so I thought I'd share:

ALBANY - Gay marriage moved just one vote shy Tuesday of becoming law in New York as the state's top Catholic raised holy hell trying to stop it.

[...]

Sen. Roy McDonald (R-Saratoga) - in a dramatic reversal from his earlier opposition - became the second GOPer in as many days to give his blessing to same-sex nuptials, bringing Senate support to 31 votes.

[Sic]

Senator Roy McDonald.

“You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing,” McDonald, 64, told reporters. “You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, fuck it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing. “I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this.”

Gay marriage now just one vote shy of becoming law in New York despite Archbishop Dolan's objections

Republican New York Senator Comes Out For Gay Marriage With Awesome Quote: Pics, Videos, Links, News

People trying to stand up for what they think is right. Regardless of 'The Job'.

While it does matter whether they win or lose, it's a hopeful sign for humanity regardless of the outcome.

Judge overturns Calif. gay marriage ban - US news - Life - msnbc.com

For me, this was the sign. When I saw this, I was actually somewhat surprised someone outside of the gay community gave a shit. (I'm not gay, but I live in San Francisco and have had to basically live with it for 3, going on 4 years now)

Looks like humanity is taking a few steps forward.

This is awesome to hear. Humanity and the US actually have a chance! It may still be a snowball's chance in hell, but at least it's not a snowflake's anymore! Hahaha.

I have a couple gay friends who would love to hear about this if they haven't yet.

I'd say this is an instance of a person realizing that what he used to fight for will soon be considered just as wrong as race segregation or denying women's suffrage. Still, it takes some balls to do what this senator has done. But then there also is the chance that relatively unknown politicians try to gain some attention by siding with the other side on a controversial issue.

...and fifty years after reaching that stage of moral development you start supporting laws based on it. =p

The only problem with the Vote is that many people are bringing religion into the picture. I personally think there should be a separation of church and state, but that's obviously not happening in our state, even though some other political figures have brought this up, it still has not seemed to hit home. They're voting on the legal part of marriage, not the religious part. If this was not against beliefs of certain religious views, we would have had gay marriage legalized much quicker.

Lego, I agree, actually, I think it's actually in the constitution, I don't remember the quote, but I do know it's something along the lines of no laws will be made with respect to any religion.

Nothing wrong with being with someone you love for the rest of you life so I'm for it.

Funny how people say gay marriage is againts their religion and yet Jesus the very person their religion was based on and/or changed because of walked with many people who have done many things would not be againts it.

And if that's not enough other animals sometimes have same gender partners too.

Humanity taking a step foward? What are you people on? Its more like jumping backwards, people will accept any disgusting thing nowadays, modern society sickens me, its got no order, everybody has sex with anyone and everything, people are selfish and just care for wealth. accepting sexual immorality and peversion adds to that and nowadays, the right for such people to marry? The worlds gone mad.

and Jesus Turned them AWAY from sin, he didnt sanction gay marriage!

So far, its only seperate states which give the rights, so you can still expect plenty of other states staying straight marriage only way into the 2030's.
