Not sure how many people on here care.

I watched it, it wasn't bad in and of itself actually, but TV coverage where people just wobble on about 'who people are wearing' and all the other gossip and nonsense is just annoying.

I don't get it. Some woman they had on going on about how a coat that Megan whatsherface had worn some time ago was being sold for £400 which was "cheap" and a "good jumping in point for coats". Who fucking spends £400 on ANY clothing item, just...….why?

Proof of status, I suppose?

I am finding it hard to think of anything I care less about than the Royal Wedding.

I didn't watch it because I'm not particularly concerned about British royalty.

As far as clothing goes, £400 for a coat is probably cheap. A Hermes cashmere coat goes for £1400 new, so among fashionistas, it's small change. Their prestige rises and falls with their fashion.

I did witness this amazing burn from BBC Three, though;

Does anyone, even British citizens, really care about the Queen or any other member of the royal family?

I wonder if with all the media attention and the trourists this royalty thing may work out favorably for the British economy. I guess a queen doesn't come cheap, what with the castles and stuff, but most of it seems to be non-recurring costs.

Royalty is a bit like sports. Some people are really into it, despite not really being involved with it. I mean, I'm a royalist of the Danish monarchy myself. Sure, there's a fair amount of cost sunk into it, but it's a cultural institution that ties our current state back over a thousand years. And the regent is a unifying symbol in times of trouble.

I'm pretty damn indifferent.  There are Monarchists in Canada, sure, but for me its just an additional tax burden when they visit and the government has to host all their costs.  The Isles themselves get the benefit of 'the royal family generates tourism money' but the Commonwealths just get the Royal Tourist bills. :P
