I don't mean anywhere close to where you live or anything like that, but it'd be fun to learn about the places people live and work.

I live in Manchester, UK. It's an old industrial town, one of the founding cities of the Industrial Revolution and very famous for it's cotton mills. Raw materials would come into Manchester from the port in Liverpool, down the Manchester Ship Canal and later the Liverpool to Manchester railway (the first Intercity passenger railway in the world) - the cotton would then be exported back out the same route to America and other parts of the empire.

This is the city centre of Manchester. The old gothic clock tower on the left is the town hall, and over to the right is the Hilton hotel and Apartments, the tallest building outside of London in the UK, for now, at least. Bigger ones are going up in Manchester as we speak.

Of course, Manchester is home to two football teams, Manchester City and Abbey Hey F.C.

The nearby Trafford Red Socks also like to claim Manchester origins, incorrectly.

Looks like somewhere in N. California or the South West/West Utah or Western Colorado maybe.
