I'm looking to get a Sherpard soon myself. They're quite expensive though (breeder wise), however this time I plan to get one from the shelter to "rescue" a dog. I mean I see nothing wrong with buying from a breeder, I bought my Jack Russell from a breeder, but I also know how packed shelters can be so I'm going to start looking there.

My cat is from a no-kill shelter. They are also careful who they give their animals to, and will seize them if you are mistreating them.

My cat is from a no-kill shelter

I just read in the paper that we're trying to turn the shelter here in my city into a 'no-kill' shelter. I support that change 100%! I'm also thinking about joining a volunteer organization (TAAG - The Animal Assistance Group) here in my city that will help promote this change and also help take care of the animals at the shelter. Like taking dogs for walks, etc.

N88TR;4760800Cats aren't needy like dogs.

That's actually incorrect. Cats can get quite needy and annoy the hell out of you if they aren't getting what they want.

From my humane society website:

Starwark was adopted just before Christmas but, very tragically, her new owner suddenly passed away. Starwark had waited to be adopted for a long time, and now sadly finds herself enclosed in the familiar pens of the shelter after just a few weeks of living with her new companion. She is a very friendly older adult female Shepherd Collie mix who is spayed and had all her shots in June 2008. Starwark has the playfulness and energy of a much younger dog.
