Hi boys and girls.
I had an rather unpleasant happening this Satuday evening.
Me and my friend was out driving when we decided to drive past the car infront of us. This was in a curve with a clear view, so we ensured that no cars came towards us in the opposite direction. We succesfully came clear of the car infront of us, and when we drove back into our lane, we suddently realized that we had to make a tight turn to not hit this sign (we came from the direction of the car in the picture):
We came clear of this sign too, but our turn was so tight we drove right of the road into the mud/dirt on the side. Realizing this, the driver made a tight turn left to stear clear of the ditch. And this is when things turned interesting...
This picture illustrates how we went back up from the ditch over the thingy in the middle of the road...and there it was...another sign.
(this is after we picked up the sign which had flown like 20 meters into the middle of the road)
So, we hit that sign 90 degrees on. The impact was in the middle of the right rear door, and it crushed its way deep into the car.
Had we hit the sign 30 cm further to the front, I wouldn't be able to write this now...
This is the tire that hit the raised part of the road:
It's pretty scary too think about what could have happened. First of all, we could have hit the ditch on the other side of the road and could have flipped around. Second, since we hit the sign 90 degrees on, we could have very well flipped around there too. Third, the sign could have hit me, and fourth, this could also have hit my neck and/or back of my head:
The emergency cars got there real quick. I belive 2 Police cars, 2 Ambulances and 2 Firetrucks pluss a command car from the Fire department arrived. This is due to the fact that they had received an alert that two cars had hit each other with four seriously injured peoples. I guess they were sad when they realized that we were only two people, with none serious injuries (I call it either luck, or a miracle).
The entire car (Mazda, btw) was bended, notable on these two pics. The first shows that the actuall metal has cracked due to the impact.
This one shows that the frame itself is bend.
So, to the bottom-line.
I'm extremly happy none of us got any serious injuries, and I'm thank God that we didn't hit a car when we got over in the other lane.
We were lucky. Others aren't.
Think about that the next time you are driving.
Things can happen anytime, anywhere. People can get serious injuries for the rest of their life, if not loose their life in a crash.
Wow....thank God you weren't injured seriously, was this your car, by the way?
P.S. How fast were you going?
Nope. I was just the passenger. The car belongs to a friend of mine (the driver), and he will have to get a new one now...
Wow..I'm glad that you are alright:)
On the other hand, you do live in Norway - the nazi state when it comes to traffic and traffic police;) Never have I been to a country where I seen so many cops in the roads, as Norway has. I can understand that you wanted to live a little on the edge:evilgrin:
Anyway, once again. Skönt att du klarade dig:)
What did the cops say? Dosnt look like its a wery legal or safe place for overtakings :P
Im glad that you and your friend made it with no unhappy injurys.. but the car is dead.. sad :(
I'm glad you are ok m8. That looked like a narrow escape.
Ouch, that must have been scary. But the important thing is that you are okay, and of course it is a bonus that it wasn't your car. :)
Odd enough my brother managed to drive my mothers VW Vento yesterday into a wooden street light pole with the side first, repairs estimated to 1000-2000€. Luckily for him he was only doing 30km/h when he was putting away his phone after answering a call whilst driving (illegal) in a curve...
I pretend to do stuff.

Wow, you're a lucky git. That must have really got the adrenaline flowing.
You can either agree with meor be wrong.

good to see you are OK!
now, step outta the car please.
Glad you're ok mate.
This shows how important it is to have a safe car. The 626 is pretty good for its age.
