How does one go about joining Special Forces? If any of you know?

Also, for those of you who are in Special Ops units, what is the job like? And, what's the daily life like?

I kinda doubt that anyone here is in a US SOCOM unit.

I do know that they deploy often, and that when they're in the rear it's a very relaxed, yet professional atmosphere. Meaning that officers and NCOs (no regular soldiers in SOCOM, all enlisted are at least SSG) will even go on a first name basis. The flip side of that is the infamous call in the middle of the night...

If you want into a unit in the special operations community, get off this forum right now AND GO DO PHYSICAL TRAINING.

I already do that constantly :smokin:

My PFT abilities have increased a lot in the last year.

Also, if you have info about it, how does one go about transferring between services?

The difference is: both of those are video game characters, and I'm talking about the real Special Forces.

I would assume the same applies, but the Canadian JTF-2 aren't allowed to talk about their jobs, they aren't really supposed to let you know they are JTF-2, I'm assuming it's the same for American special forces. So if one of us was part of one, we probably wouldn't be able to talk about it.

I know, my question was more of a general one, as in: what is the lifestyle like?

EO's answer is probably the best I'll get, though.

A transfer from what branch to what branch?

If you are USMC and go Army, then you just ETS and enlist in the Army. No basic training, just AIT. If you're in the Army and you want to go into the Marines, it's the same thing. Except you have to go through basic training again. I don't think the USAF except prior service Army or Marines.

As far as PT goes... You need to be able to do thing like carry a 90 pound ruck sack for 30 or 40 kilometers, at a damn fast pace. And not on road. At Air Assault school you have something like two and a half hours to carry a ruck 20k.

Seriously, if you want into the special operations community, you need to pick up some books on training for it, and take them seriously. It's the hardest thing you're ever going to do.

I'd suggest Ranger School as well. That's hard as hell as well, but not as bad as SF Q course. It'll get you mentally and physically ready for selection and the Q course (if you make selection).

USMC to Army, I wanted to do that because Parris Island will help prepare me mentally and physically for the Special Forces schools. What I wanted to do was become a Green Beret. Also, yes I do take it very seriously, I've seen Ranger school, and as much as I can of the six phases of Green Beret training, that's why I've been working to improve mentally and physically.

You might as well enlist Army with a contract to take you to the 82nd, 173rd, or the 4/25 ID.

Can I do that through transferring?
