Mr. Pedantic;5170785Technically, science can't prove anything. However, this is not a matter for science, per se.

But see, the thing is, that there actually was a city called Eridu. The area was originally settled in 5400BCE. Long, long before the 4000BCE date of God's supposed creation.

I wouldn't doubt there was a city called Eridu, however I think these documents they found (or tablets) are probably misinterpreted.

And science requires observation. Without observation, there is no science. ;)

Dude, have you heard of The Onion before? They're a joke website, pioneers of fake news.

However, the city of Eridu and it's existence and archaeological age are supported by both historical evidence and archaeological evidence. Sure, it isn't the "scientific method" that's used by physicists or chemists, as history is not a repeatable experiment, but archeology does use scientific methods to support the hypotheses proposed by researchers.

Meh, have heard the story of bible nazis too many times and that the earth is quite young (X thousand years). So I went straight into "meh, here we go again" mode.

Echoing what Crazy Wolf said, it's the Onion. It's just a joke, a bit of light humour and satire. It's funny because (sadly) it's a very real reflection of how some people think.

I never said that this was a matter that directly concerned any of the pure sciences. However the archaeological and historical methods used to date the city and arrive at the conclusions that we do are grounded in science.

I know it was supposed to joke, hence why I said I went straight into "meh mode" near the very start and didn't humour myself.

Sometimes, I wonder if Dread hasn't rubbed off on you. A lot.

But how would Dread possibly rub off on someone? Perhaps through close physical contact, an embrace, maybe?

Maybe that's why he doesn't want hugs. Maybe he's afraid of creating a monster. At any rate, it's a shame you didn't humour yourself - it is quite funny.

Zamamee;5170508I'm fairly certain that not even the most hardcore Christians still believe that the universe was created only thousands of years ago.

I'm fairly certain that a fair number of hardcore Christians still believe that the Universe was created only thousands of years ago. Faith seems to be blind. These are the people though, that believe in a superior being, that created Earth before he created the Universe...
