It's too complicated to get into here, but ultimately it comes down to being the classic black sheep of the family. Bible thumping, a lack of critical thought, both in schools and in the people. All the isms you probably have associated with those "hicks" in your mind. The tea and fact that southern hospitality is the biggest crock of shit I've ever been a part of. I could go on.

This isn't the entire population there, but as a bleeding heart in the midst of that nonsense, it was hard to overlook, let alone combat at such a young age. So I got the hell out.

The older I get, the more I lament not having the accent though. Non-southerners really seem to enjoy it.

Not to mention they're the most arrogant when it comes to voicing their pre-packaged arguments.

Examples? My roommate currently is nice enough but some of the shit that comes out of his mouth... I swear if I didn't have to live deal with him I'd practice a lot less tact.

I live with a misinformed roommate that also spouts off a lot of bullshit. (Incidentally, he's also from Kentucky, but we didn't meet until we both had moved). He also likes to comment on whatever political book I'm reading at the time, such as when I was reading Comey's book, and giving me all his "facts" that come from his ass, and insisting he doesn't need to read things to have this "knowledge."

FWIW, I (kinda viciously) bit his head off a few weeks ago for deflecting and playing the whataboutism game when being asked to contribute to keeping the apartment clean. Haven't seen him since. It's pretty great.

Screw tact!

There needs to be a punishment for stupidity.  People need to learn that you don't get points in life for lack of thought, research, or basic decency.  America has a serious problem with anti-intellectualism because actually thinking about issues is hard work, and so people try to water down the level of discourse to a bunch of nonsense talk to appeal to the "common man."  How insecure - and probably jealous - do you have to be to insist on everything being dumbed down to the point where any old bullshit will fly?  As a result, people of education are marginalized and accused of being arrogant and out of touch.  Well, sorry, Skeeter, your good-ole' boy/back-in-my-day  "wisdom" is no substitute for careful study and criticism, and it really pisses me off to no end seeing people proudly spewing lies and quotes taken out of context to support their ridiculous views.  A large part of this is because of organized and often fundamentalist religion.  People are told to take things on faith, without question, and they apply that principle to knowledge and fact.

Ugh. Same. Everything that isn't my room looks like a goddamn pig sty. I used to pickup a bit hoping he'd understand but no. People are all the same taking advantage of each other. I stopped. It can all rot for all I care as long as it doesn't affect me. Matter of fact that is what happens. Got a fruit fly infestation because he can't clean up after himself and the microwave looks like meat exploded inside and boy what a glutton. For all his crap about obesity epidemics in America and how he workouts, him being 240 pounds for 5'7" guy and stuffing the place with shit half of which he won't eat and the other half being little debbies and twinkies, he really is comes of as massive hypocrite, for that as well as other things.

The most annoying is how much he talks, "I'm a libertarian blah blah do this blah blah that should happen blah blah cynicism and hypocrisy." It's hilarious how he knows what a lot of the people stereotype Americans as and he admits a lot of them are objectively bad. Yet he does it anyway and then has the nerve to make jokes about how kids in Africa could have had the water I used to do my dishes with. Fucker doesn't even do his dishes for months on end.

And you are totally right about the whataboutisms. I swear it's never about becoming better yourself. It's just about going on in the ways you are better than someone else, even if it ain't worth shit.

But the one thing I am most salty about right now is how he fucking sucks up all the goddamn bandwidth playing overwatch all the fucking time. I can't even reply properly or do anything.

Man I really have some choice words. I don't know what rights foreigners have though. For all I know he could whip out a gun or take me to court and I would have zero defense.

As my lady likes to say in regards to our roomate's outlook on life: "It's not important to me, therefore it's not important."
