Okay, a guy I know named Kevin told me this riddle about a missing dollar. I can't figure it out. Can any of you smart mathematicians help me? The story goes like this: 3 guys decide to get a room and they go up to the clerk. The clerk said the room is $30. Each guy pays $10 dollars each. 3 x 10 = 30. So far so good right? Well after the guys leave, the clerk figures out that the room only cost $25. He gives the bell hop (5) one dollar bills to give back to the 3 guys. 30 - 25 = 5. The bell hop can't figure out how to divide $5 into three ways so he decides to give each guy $1 dollar each and keep $2 dollars for himself as a tip. So each guy really paid $9 each. The bell hop took a $2 dollar tip So it kinda looks like this ..... ($25 + $3 + $2 = $30) But each guy really paid $9 each for the room. $9 x 3 = $27 But ..... $27 + $2 tip = $29 What happened to the missing dollar?

You have to look at the $5 seperatly to figure it out. With that said, i'll see if you can figure it out

Think of it mathmaticly and look at the $5 seperatly guys. 10-1=9 for all 3 guys. times all 3 of those numbers by 3 and you have your next equation. 30-3=27. 30-5=25. 3+2=5. 27+3=30. 25+5=30. Just to start you off on the right track.

Math makes my brain hurt. I prefer blaming the clerk :D

There is still a total of $30 between the 4 guys and the hotel.

Hotel = $25 Bell hop = $2 Guy 1 = $1 Guy 2 = $1 Guy 3 = $1

Add it all up and you get $30. Each guy only paid $8.33 toward the bill, the rest of his $9 went to the bell hop. He kept one.

The guys paid 27 dollars beacause that includes the 2 dollar tip for the bellhop. 25 for rooms + 2 dollars for bellhop = 27. Each guy (3) then got 1 dollar back. Thus = 3 dollars.

There is no missing dollar...And there is no spoon, either.
