Okay, okay. Before I start, this is not a thread to discuss where to get warez from, or to discuss methods of illegal filesharing.

I'm interested in understanding what people's opinions are on piracy of games, movies, music. To give this some perspective:

A study from 2005 suggests global music piracy worth $4.6 BILLION.

That was over four years ago, and I can't imagine things have improved for legitimate sales.

So... do you pirate? If so, do you have any moral qualms about it? Do you pirate to "try before you buy"? Is there some things you will steal and other things you will buy?

I expect the staff will take severe punitive action against anyone discussing methods of acquiring illegal files, so please keep this discussion relating to the moral side of piracy rather than the practical.

Course not, because of torrenting the rap industry is full of mainstream rappers which is why they are so similar, quality has heavily degraded when torrenting came into the picture in hopes that they might become mainstream and get more sales. I remember reading a blog where it said that during the 80's and early 90's, you would have to sell 200,000 records within your first week of album release or else your label would drop you, today artists are lucky to get 100,000 records sold at all, much less sold within the first week. This means that artists which otherwise be doing great and have more freedoms, have to stick with the same old same old in order to actually record and release, IIRC 95% of music is torrented. The people who torrent seem to not care about the artists themselves, but feel there already off all right anway (like torrenting a big name album like with Greenday, Lil Wayne or Lady GaGa) so they don't really need the support.

IMO its fine as long as they get some revenue, the artists which actually don't care about sales make the better music, like M.O.P., they say all they want is a working toilet and food on the table, nothing special.

I hope the FBI is not monitoring this thread. I do steal some. All I will say I steal is music. And other assorted items.

I use piracy to a limited degree, usually only for stuff I can't find easily(when have you seen Jesus Camp or Super High Me in a store?). I am strictly CD only for my music collection. Even a high quality MP3 files does not compare to the quality of a CD. I usually buy used CD's since I can readily get 2 for the price of 1. The artwork and physical media is nice and cannot be replaced by a download.

Thank you, for going OT.

I use limited amounts of piracy, usually with music, but for some things (damn it, Steam, I hate you for this and your annoying "One account per cd key, and you have to have an account to play, even for singleplayer" policy) there needs to be "extra measures" taken.

Yes. I started a thread in spam asking why. Anyway, I, myself, have only stolen one song. It was off youtube, I showed my dad the converter, he illegaly downloads all sorts of music now. But no, I don't pirate. Main reason is because I want the PC gaming industry to countinue. Unless the consoles start implementing a console in the game along with the allowing mods, I'm sticking mainly with PC. 2nd Reason is because all the pirated files I've noticed are incomplete/corrupted.

Well sorry, he was the one who started that thread 2 hours ago according to the forum, I was just wondering if there was a link with that and, in that case, why the topic itself was still here.
