So, I was in my PC classes. For those that don't know (I doubt there are any, I think I have made it painfully obvious to everyone I know). We were learning C (I hate it, but a necessary evil, I guess) and we were on an intermission. A classmate of mine was playing a zombie game (something like L4D2 but on facebook, if anyone knows the name tell me) and I was sitting next to him. Now that game had a male version of the L4D2 Spitter, a zombie that looked like Smoker and spit blood (which damaged the player for whatever reason, toxic blood?), called Vomitron. Whenever one popped up, I (serenely) said "Vomit" to signify his appearance and help the classmate (kinda like what the NPC survivors do on L4D2). A female classmate was sitting on his other side, on an adjacent PC, playing Candy Crush (if you don't know what that is then I'll assume you escaped from the 20s). Apparently, she had enough of me saying "Vomit" because she said "You're disgusting" at one point. Now, that particular girl goes out with some other classmates every few days and drinks her liver's worth in ouzo (Greek drink with quite a kick when not diluted), vodka and other drinks. Naturally, she spends a few hours throwing her pathetic organs up after that. The point of this sordid (not really) tale is a question: Why does somebody doing that get disgusted by a simple word?

Words associated with imagery.

Actually I somehow started a huge bitch fit on another forum by using the term (Jesus freak) and fully explaining the very small demographic the term concerned. The story was relevant, I clearly had the solution to the issue concerning the topic after my analogy, but they only focused on that despite me explaining fully what that meant, and how that was relevant. I was called a troll, the thread was deleted. Somehow I think I may be their Splicer lol!

The point being, if an association to a particular word to something is strong enough, that is the primary focus, and the only thing they will concentrate on and will associate it with.

AKA the girl's got stomach contents in her head instead of the zombie right in front of her.

And thinking about how horribly she'll feel a few hours after drinking a pool's worth of alcohol would be too logical, apparently.

Because words have definitions attached to them which give them meaning. It's the same as words that make people angry, or happy, or sad.

But why does the word make her disgusted and not herself doing the action because of foolishness?

I get the same reaction when I hear the words "make love."

Also, I think it could simply be the fact that it's different when you do something vs when others do it. Like when you pick your ear, nose, crotch...

Crack your knuckles, and things like that.
