If you use Quick Battle Replacement and get so annoyed when the configure screen just stays there but you see everything else in the background moving then do the following.

1. Quit Bridge Commander 2. Go to your Bridge Commander Directory 3. Go to scripts\ships 4. Delete the .pyc files of the ships that you were going to use 5. Go to the hardpoints folder 6. Repeat step 4 here

Can anyone tell me which line in the phaser section of hardpoints controls how powerful they are? I'm tring to tone down Rick Knox's Sovereign so it fits better in the game and doesn't blow everything up in an instant (although that is fun!)

If you know which line, let me know.

Yes its under the Energy Weapon entry on each individual phaser. The Max Damage line is the one you need to alter.

:mad: Anyone know why when I make a sound plugin it doesn't work in the game. As far as I can tell I am doing it correctly with BCMP Beta 4.4 It's weird cuz sometimes certain sounds will work and others won't? I've got the sounds named correctly in the harpoint file (as far as I can tell.) I'll name a fire sound, for example. For the Borg cube I made I named the fire sound Bphaser. Then when I select that sound in BCMP and add a sound file to it and make the plugin then play the game it doesn't work :uhoh: I have the sound set at volume 1 so it isn't that. Anyone have an ideas? Or if you have experience with adding custom sounds could you please explain in detail how to do it and what steps are necessary to get it to work reliably?

This should really be in the help forum...

But to answer your question. If its a projectile, then the sound specified in the projectile py file overrides any settings in the HP.

Also the file names are case sensitive, in both the hp and the projectiles py, and must exactly match (minus the .wav of course)

Try not to use any special characters in your filenames.

Thanks, that helped me. I figured it out :lol: I was naming the fire sound in the hardpoint the .wav name and not the name I had assigned to the sound in BCMP with the sound plugin, that is why my sounds weren't working. It's been a while since I modded :frog:

I have a tip though.

When modding a ship, if you want it to be perfectly symetrical, try building the ship on one side and then use slice plane and cut the ship in half. That way you can skin the entire ship then use the copy command and make an identical copy. Remember though to weld the verticles together at the seams, if you don't it can cause probs.

Also you can get a lot of mileage from extrusions and bevels. I used a lot of those on the Cardassian ships I've made.

After reading most of the posts in this thread, I'll admit I know very little about modding. I am however getting my feet wet with just the space backgrounds and now the uniforms.

Long ago I replaced the heads of the crew with my own and the heads of my friends.

My advice for anyone who won't laugh is, Create a folder called "My Mods" or whatever you want to call it. (mind you this is for uniform, Head or Space-background mods only. Not ship mods) In this folder create other folders such as...

Miniskirts

original uniforms

tos (the old show) uniforms

original space

tholianWeb

Qbarrier

You got it! things like that. Inside each folder put all the files needed for that change & a shorcut to the folder within bridge commander where they need to go. (remain calm) Be sure to save the original files(or the ones you prefer, to a folder also, with its own shortcut)

If you've understood me so far, changing your background space is easy: drag the stars.tga file into the shortcut, carefully holding down the ctl(control) key to be sure you are copying, not moving the file. Then when you are sick of that background (or uniform.. whatever) you can go to the "Original Space" or "Original Uniforms" Folder and drag those files into the shortcut(Carefully holding down the ctl key of course)

first of all i think this should be moved back to modding and editing and this fourm is for that purpose, it seems we have wandered off the road on many occasions to fix peoples problems. Anyway I wanted to know if anybody could give me info on where to start learning hardpoints, I had seen a hardpoints tutorial in another fourm but I forget where...
